Darren Aronofsky you’ve done it again...
Darren Aronofsky master of surrealism that leaves disturbance and controversy in hearts of viewers. Brilliant and genius filmmaker and writer. His last movie indeed left me devastated, disturbed and questioning in darkness when I finished it.

In the prologue of the movie you can see fire(actually Jennifer Lawrence in the fire) and for me it was so unexpected that I first thought it was some kind of advertisement, then the film begins with an idyllic garden and a house in which two live - He (Javier Bardem) and She (Jennifer Lawrence). Interesting point is that names of them, like the other characters in the film, do not exist, that there should already be supposers of psychological realism and so-called "persuasiveness", in the lack of which viewers so like to reproach artists. Or it might be a reference to the name of god in the bible "He", then it makes more sense for us why "mother!" is written with lower case. So the idea of putting the main character and his importance over everyone else is programmed in the name itself from the beginning. He is a brilliant poet in the stage of the protracted crisis. She is his young beautiful wife, restoring the lover's house after a fire.
Aronofsky hits up the atmosphere when an uninvited guest comes to the house: a certain doctor (at this moment of the movie I honestly stopped understanding anything), who coughs with blood and, apparently, is terminally sick. But wait, there will be more uninvited guests: the wife of the doctor, then - their two adult sons. And when all of them come into conflict, that will end predictably tragically, the house is filled with grieving friends and relatives; but soon they cease to mourn, starting to have fun, drink, have sex and gradually destroy the house. The character of Ed Harris, the doctor is actually Adam. And his wife is Eve. The wound of doctor bleeds because his rib was removed, and she tasted the forbidden fruit (crystal), after which all the problems began. Their fighting sons are Cain and Abel, and the first kills the second. The broken sink is a reference to the great flood.
Aren't your already lost and confused? Yes, you should be! Because I was! In the second part of the film "mother" becoming pregnant, and her husband comes overcomes the crisis and starts writing a new masterpiece. A huge crowd of fans will be waiting at the door of their house. Everything will end with the murder of their newly born child and a collective act of cannibalism, which can make mentally sick even those ones who have iron nerves. And again it is a Bible! Because the newly born child is Jesus and he will be sacrificed. Actually, Aronofsky said that dialogues are literally taken from the Bible.
However, in my opinion, this movie is not only biblical stories or a new vision of Bible. "mother!" is a phantasmagoria about male egoism and the suppression of a woman forced to serve to her husband as well as to the entire patriarchal system. For the Poet and his fans she herself is nothing more than a speculative image (at some point Mama literally turns into a magic crystal, which the Poet puts on the mantelpiece with satisfaction).
And everything begins again! It's a full circle. Which brings us to the point where the mother can be a mother-Earth. It's a story of the cyclical nature of life itself from birth to death. As Darren Aronofsky said himself the main character can be seen as the personification of "Mother Earth", the resources of which we endlessly draw, without giving anything in return. The ending of the movie gives you answer and everything seems clear and understandable, still, you will have so many questions...
OMG how much I loved that movie also wanted to write something, but was already discouraged by Youtube interpretations leading my mind into religious and mother nature dichotomy discussions. I like you're objection:
