"Provenance" (14x11 oil on panel) painting process
Greetings Steemians and Artists,
Painting a still life such as this is feels like coming home. Back to basics. I've said it before, but I will never tire of painting still life. Within simple objects there is always new territory to explore and new heights to achieve.
The setup:
It always comes back to oranges, doesn't it? My objective for this composition is to make the center orange the primary focus, with the cup as a close supporting second.
Here is the initial block-in in umber with a brush:
Straight into knife work. I started on the focal orange first:
Next stage:
For a painting like this, I keep the studio very dark to minimize unnecessary reflections in my objects. And I wear black (which may seem silly, but it makes a difference):

Great job Mr. Cheifetz! I love it! The center orange looks like it is on fire or ready for take off. ....and the reflections.... I'm a fan.
thanks for sharing,
Brandon
Thanks Brandon! I appreciate the comments :D
I love seeing your process posts, the translucency on The Jug and the reflections of the orange on it and the cup are very cool. I like how still lifes transcend reality and add more "depth" to the items than they would have if just seen on a table. Thank you for continuing to post your beautiful pieces.
Thanks so much 🙏. Your comments are the best 🙏 😊
I don't often get to interact with an artist whose work I really like. I'm really enjoying that part of steemit, getting to tell people why I like their stuff as well as how much I liked it. I'm glad you enjoy the interaction too!
Definitely! :D :D
Beautiful work! Lovely setup too.
Thank you!! :)
