SUICIDE GIRLS DRAWINGS
Hello everybody,
today, I'd like to share some oldies from my archive.
We're going back in time to the year 2008 when I was working on a new book project.
I planned it to be a coffee table book with a high quality hardcover containing all my drawings, sketches and graphics about the alt- models from "Suicide Girls".
For those of you who have never heard about them before check out their website (slightly NSFW) and see what they are all about.
I must admit that I haven't looked at their homepage(s) since 2009 so I don't know what they are doing these days.
But when I was in contact with the Suicide Girls company based in Los Angeles their models and photos were quite a big thing.
They were pretty much the "counterpart" of all the high fashion shiny Playboy models or the like. The Suicide Girls had this certain DIY attitude, taking pictures from each other, being covered in tattoos and piercings and all combined with a good alternative rock n roll attitude. They were doing shows, appeared in rock music videos (like Probot's "shake your blood" including Lemmy from Motörhead which is slightly NSFW, as well) and had their own photo books published.
So I started working on a series of drawings, had pretty much everything planned out with their company and already found a book publisher in Germany that wanted to print this baby.
But for several reasons I decided not to do it at the end.
As cool as it seemed this book would have been a massive project for me; far more time-consuming than my other two art books because of the amount of pages that needed to be filled and I think it would have taken me over a full year to create the drawings.
Reflecting about all this today, I think this could have been an awesome project for me (because I already had tons of ideas) but sometimes it's just not the right time for certain things. And sometimes it's all about tiny details so I decided to put it all on ice. But who knows, maybe I'll return to this project someday in the future?
The drawings in this post were all try-outs and examples for the book.
I wanted to catch that certain "Suicide Girls vibe" and had the feeling the more I worked on these drawings the more I was shaping my very own niche for my art.
Drawing more and more "untypical" Pin-Up scenes including all kinds of body modification was a great adventure. Some of these drawings were also included in my final exam at the Art Academy and it all brought me to a new level.
Enjoy the drawings and have a great weekend.
Cheers,
D
@danielkiessler Thank you for your work, I invite you to evaluate my work.
Thank you @samwicallis !
Great! I live for Suicide Girls, they're what makes the world beautiful. Hell, I'd be one if I was a girl.
I'm amazed at the art. Some of them look truly lifelike, while retaining the charm only a subjective mind can give a piece. Really nice.
Upvoted!
Thanks for the nice comment (and the upvote ;)) @steemedchitty ! Great to hear that you enjoy the drawings so much!
Great post thank you for the insight. I'm looking forward to this event great!!!
Thank you @nakamurasatoshi !
These are really great @danielkiessler! Tries to imagine how much time each piece would take to be finished
Thanks a lot @m31 ! It's a bit hard to tell how many hours are going into one piece... I always work parallel on several drawings and these are all different sizes, too. The last one surely was over a week full of drawing though...
These are beautiful! The 2nd to last girl is my favorite.
Thank you @missaudi , great to hear that you like these!
