BEASTLY TALES

A CYMRIC CYNIC

A longstanding idealist,
Who became a realist,
Such is the definition of a cynic.
Perhaps now requiring a behavioural clinic,
Given to tearing off the veil,
Always doing so, without fail.
From human weaknesses, so many,
Especially those declaring they haven’t any.
Sarcastically doubting human sincerity and merit,
Always searching for badness, they do ferret.

Gryth Jones, he came from Wales,
He was such a cynic, from Bangor he hails,
Yes, he was undoubtedly a cynic,
And because he was from Wales, also a cymric!
Indeed, a Cymric Cynic is a Welsh Cynic.

The curious factor about Mr Jones,
He never had idealism in his bones,
Never an idealist to the slightest degree,
Idealism drove him right up a tree!
But, never-the-less, in a cynical manner,
He viewed the world, and always the planner,
He thought, to Caernarvon Castle he’d go,
And through history, he’d like to now show,
That humans are such an insincere lot,
Their bad behaviour should not be forgot.
“Why,” said he, “Did this castle they build?”
“Why was it with weaponry filled?”
“Because the builders distrusted their fellow man.”
“They needed to invest in a self-defence plan.”

And so it goes, throughout the course of history,
Mistrust, aggression, all a familiar mystery.
An American President is famous for saying,
The following, and attention we’re paying.
“You can fool some of the people all of the time,”
“You can fool all of the people some of the time,”
“But you can’t fool ALL of the people ALL of the time.”(?)
It is a well known saying in the political arena,
“Tell a lie often enough,”
“And people will come to believe lying stuff!”
This is a well known saying in the political arena,
Yes, spin and propaganda, designed to make people keener,
When scepticism should be the logical thought,
Making idealism and reality as nought!
So the Cymric Cynic, by name of Gryth Jones,
May be thought to be correct, though supported by groans!
