The Joy of Painting & Joie de vivre

in #art7 years ago

There are different realms of creation, or different realms artists create from.

Some artists create from suffering, from pain.
Some use their frustration to channel their creativity.
Some create from the realm of beauty, or the realm of joy, or passion, etc.

The possibilities are limitless.
Perhaps the choice of realm is similar to the choices we make in life.

Looking for a photograph of one of my old paintings, I have been perusing my hard drive. I haven't yet found the photo I was looking for, but I came across many other gems.

One of them is this drawing by my son, from 2008. He used to draw like crazy. Not to create art or anything like that. He was simply processing everything he saw and witnessed.  He often created more than 20 drawings in a day.  Sometimes they were highly intricate and extremely detailed, other times just quick sketches, impressions.

That's me, in the picture.

His drawing is highly symbolical. I have neither created such paintings, as depicted here, nor did I use green, blue, yellow, and red as my palette, and yet this is what he has observed, and seen.

And it fits.

Art if life & Life is art

Sort:

Warm hearted story which is the same time a sort of a psychological sketch, the same as his painting of love, which is adorable.

I can't agree more. The way we show our creativity is close to the way we create our life.
Resteemed.

Isn't it amazing how each and every one of us has a "filter", a unique filter to process their environment and produce such one of a kind results?

You will find common symbols and colors and patterns, but there will always be that ONE and only reality in your head that gets depicted in a paper of poetry or stories, a canvas of painting, a screen of a digital image, a sculpture and so on...

Yes. These differences used to fascinate me... I used to be obsessed with understanding others, and why they feel and do what they feel and do, which is what lead me to psychology back then.
But, all of that was a long, long time ago. Centuries have passed since then.. ;)

Some call this a filter, some call it a frame, and there are other terms for it. Both, a filter and a frame are sort of limiting, which is interesting (and very logical too).

Imagine removing the filter, completely, or removing the frame.

What would we be left with without a frame/filter? Everything would look the same, no?

Would everything be the same...
Certain things, yes, which is why they would no longer be interesting at all. They would simply dissolve, and yes, this refers to many, many things, but not to everything. There would still be much left, because new, previously invisible things would now emerge. Those that were invisible due to these filters or frames.

So, what would be left is to explore those, to wander and wonder, to find others who are breaking out of their frames, or are at least aware of them (of the frames), to connect and explore together, to play, to love, to live.

I just thought of Plato's allegory of the cave.
Perhaps it is applicable here as well? Or perhaps not, in which case we'll just call this free-associating. :)

Or, if you are asking what would we and life itself be if everyone's frames were gone, and all were free, well... we can really only speculate, but why would we do that? :)

This needs some deeper thought.

Invisible things would show themselves in front of eyes naked from the "clothes" of prejudice, bias and personal experience. Visible things would disappear also, stereotypes for example...

The cave? It makes sense at some point. The philosopher is the one who sees the "true truth" and tries to share this knowledge, communicate it to the people, by returning to set the rest of the prisoners free. (We were taught the Cave at high school)

And actually I was just wondering how the world would be if all of a sudden we were all "free" of our frames, our chains, those of education, society, personal experiences. They all make us perceive reality in very specific ways... I guess everything would be, I don't know how they would be. You're right. I think it's hard even to try speculate. :)

Super!

It´s a wonderful drawing! I love this pure art! so much! My inspiration comes from the way children paint. Thanks for sharing this!

Thank you Romanie, I'll pass on the comment :)

I like how you've named the states in which artists create from. My own creations usually come from pain and frustration and over the years I've had difficulty in explaining why I use the "black crayon." You've so simply stated here what I've always known about myself, but struggled to explain to those who come from positivity and joy which seem more acceptable in our society.

Actually, when it comes to art, and speaking of what is generally acceptable, then pain, suffering and frustration correspond much better to the cliché of the "proper" artist's realm.
Whatever works...

Why do you need to explain the black crayon?

I guess I really don't need to explain, but there are times I do try.
Thanks for your responses--I find them supportive. Just be myself, black crayon and all ;)

Really your right @anibas. There are might some hardships in creating some painting but lastly its still solve.
