The soldier who died Monday throughout bodily fitness training at Fort Carson, Colorado, has been recognized as Spc. Matthew Hester.

Hester, 28, collapsed round 7:30 a.m. Monday after finishing a run throughout routine training. Combat medics offered on-the-scene help earlier than Hester was transported to Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs. Doctors pronounced Hester lifeless virtually an hour later.

The investigation into the reason for Hester’s dying continues to be underway.

Originally from Hollywood, Florida, Hester enlisted in the Army on March 17, 2015. A fight medic, Hester was assigned to the third Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, at Fort Carson, in September 2015.

“By his very nature as a combat medic, Spc. Matthew Hester was a selfless soldier who always looked after the well-being of those around him,” stated Lt. Col. Jason Sabat, commander of third Brigade’s 1st Battalion, eighth Infantry Regiment, in a press release. “Just as Matthew cared for others, we cared deeply about him. His loss greatly hurts us, and Matthew will be sorely missed within the Fighting Eagles Battalion and the Iron Brigade. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends at this time.”

Hi! This post has a Flesch-Kincaid grade level of 9.7 and reading ease of 53%. This puts the writing level on par with Michael Crichton and Mitt Romney.

I was stationed at Ft. Carson in the late 80's, I was an MP, I personally witnessed a soldier die on a PT run. He collapsed at the end of a two mile run next to a troop med clinic. The medics rushed out and rendered first aid, he was then transported less than two miles to the post hospital where he was pronounced dead. This post almost mirrors my own...strange.
