general guide to squad formations relative to the number of soldiers (members) is as follows:
A) a single rank/single file may have up to 10 soldiers:
B) two ranks/files are used for more than 10 and up to 20: and
C) three ranks/column of threes are used for 21 or more
FORMING UP IN RANKS
on the command " ATTEN-TION' the following position is adopted:
the heels are together and in line;
the knees are braced but not locked;
arms, elbows and wrist are straight;
and ALWAYS FACE THE FRONT OF YOU ( trust me you don't what to piss of the Sargent)
STAND AT EASE
on the command STAND AT-EASE
you move you left leg 30cm away form you and make sure you raise you left leg 15cm before you move it.
with your hand you put them behind your back with your hand you have one lap over the other
and when you go back to attention you do the reverse of what you do here
