Sun down - Anglesey Barracks Lightpainting.
Good afternoon Steemworld and I hope life is good and you're ready for the weekend....I know I am.
Throwback here to one of the many epic visits to North Wales with some of the loveliest and most talented lightpainters in the UK.
On this night we found ourselves at Anglesey barracks in Dinorwick slate quarry. These are the remains of some of the houses people lived in who worked the slate quarry. I know it looks quite calm and beautiful here but I can't imagine living here in the depths of winter. Those people deserve the upmost respect and must have been tough as nails.
I found myself on my own for a little while so I plopped my tripod down and started testing exposure for the sky and the foreground. Once happy with my settings I added an orb into the mix. After I span the orb I went into each of the houses and popped the flash with an orange gel to compliment the orb colour.
Orbs were the thing I saw which stopped me in my tracks when first discovering light painting. I am still captivated by them now and the work of Denis Smith is absolutely sublime.
For those who don't know an orb tool is a light source on the end of a wire which can be turned off and on using a button. You spin in a circular motion and walk backwards in a tight circle. During a long exposure photograph this forms a ball of light.
Denis sells his version of the tool here www.denissmith.com.au/the-ball-of-light-tool and after a couple of hundred spins mine still works beautifully. Well worth a look.
Here are a few more orb based shots I have done over the years.
I hope you like my shots and that it inspires you to get out and try some lightpainting. It's so much fun and I still find magic in it every time I go out into the dark.
