Apple has decided to end production of the iPhone 12 mini.

On the 21st, IT specialized media Phone Arena made the following announcement, citing the TrendForce report, a Taiwanese start-up research company. Production of the iPhone 12 mini already halted as the iPhone 12 mini has recorded lower sales compared to other models.

According to reports, apple decide to discontinue mini at the beginning of the second quarter. As the next-generation iPhone will unveil in September. Apple will focus on selling existing devices without additional production.

The iPhone 12 mini is a new addition to Apple’s flagship lineup last year. The 5.4-inch small display will target the demand of enthusiasts. However, actual sales were poor. During the launch period last year, the mini accounted for only 6% of total iPhone sales. It definitely compares to the high-end Pro line, which has outperformed expectations.

The Mini is in a somewhat ambiguous position in terms of price and performance. For just $100 more, you can get the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 with a longer battery life. Battery capacity is also an issue. The mini battery capacity is 2227mAh, which is only 60% of the iPhone 12 Pro Max. There is also the iPhone SE 2nd generation, which is similar in size to the mini, but is cheaper as an entry-level model.

Opinions are divided as to whether the Mini will survive the next-generation iPhone.

Recently, Apple registered seven model numbers that are presumed to be next-generation iPhones with the Eurasian Economic Commission. Assuming that apple submits the model number separately for the US and global models, one number is not enough.

If the next-generation iPhone this year comes out with the same four models as its predecessor, there should be a total of eight US and global models, but one is not enough. This raises the possibility that Apple will remove mini from the US or global launch lineup.

On the other hand, there is a forecast that apple maintain the mini until this year and they will completely replace it next year. TF International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst specializing in Apple, predicted through an investment report in April that the 6.7-inch entry-level model will replace the Mini next year.
