Animal Abuse is the behavior of a human being that causes unnecessary pain or stress to an animal. These behaviors go from the lack of basic care, to the torture or death of the animal.

Examples of Animal Abuse:

1.- Abandonment: It is when an animal, after having had a home or a family, is unnecessarily abandoned to its fate in the streets. Abandonment is one of the most common forms of animal abuse especially in domestic animals such as Dogs and Cats because they are the ones with the most contact with human beings. In almost 95% of cases the abandonment leads to prolonged or sudden death of the animal due to the abuses, poisoning, hunger, thirst, sadness and depression. Some of the excuses for abandonment by the owners is the change of residence, allergies, behavior of animals or economic problems, forgetting that they are living beings who did not ask to come to this world, who need their care and that all these excuses mentioned above have solutions which do not include abandonment.

2.- Poor Nutrition: It is when the animal is not supplied with the necessary food for its development and health, or when it is supplied with inadequate food or food in bad conditions. The same as human beings, animals must have a daily diet and sufficient quantity of food for their development and adequate quality of life.

3.- Keeping them in places or innappropiate living conditions according to their needs, habits and customs. For example, in the case of monkeys kept locked up is totally against their nature.

Dogs, for example, having them tied all the time unnecessarily or exposed to the sun and high temperatures is a very common case of abuse, which causes aggressiveness, low self-esteem and distrust in the animal.

4.-Lack of hygiene: very long lack of hygiene can cause complications in the animal and even death.

5.-Hitting, injurying or killing them unless it´s controlled by a qualified veterinarian. Bullfighting is one of the most cruel and horrendous examples in which the animal is subjected to unnecessary derision and public abuse. This practice is also an evidence of the backwardness of many societies that exist in the world; However, fortunately, the governments of many countries of the world have abolished this practice permanently.

6.- Excess of Work.

7.- For Fun

8.- Among Others (any form of animal abuse is considered an example of this practice)

A very important aspect about animal abuse is that according to studies carried out by several agencies, Animal Abuse is intimately and directly related to cases of Family Abuse and cases of Psychopathy. On the other hand, animal abuse is an indicator of feelings of inferiority, insecurity, criticism, isolation, rejection and aggressiveness in the subjects who commit such abusive practices; even six out of ten subjects who have carried out some type of animal abuse have also practiced family abuse.

In many countries of the world there are laws that condemn these practices of animal abuse, but nevertheless, in several of these countries these laws are not enforced. Beyond the existence of laws or not, respect for animals is something that should be part of a healthy and civilized society. Condemning and denouncing isolated acts of abuse is an advance, not only in the healthy coexistence among human beings, but also as an advance to fighting to provide all animals the respect and a quality of life that allows them to live among us in an appropriate way. While not everyone likes to have animals as pets in their homes, that does not give us the right to abuse animals when we see them in the streets or, even worse, poison them because we do not like their presence. The animal abuse is not justifiable for any reason.

I hope to contribute in the fight for the rights and respect to all the animals with this article and to make the world a better place every day for all living beings in it.
