One of my favourite pastimes is to experiment with recipes and find healthy alternatives for some of my favourite treats. I do this mainly with human recipes, however, I can’t forget about my furry little side kick Stella.

With Stella being an Old English Bulldog, she’s prone to skin infections - a lot of which come from food sensitivities. Because of this, she’s on a limited ingredient diet and I’m super picky about what treats I buy her.

Being your typical basic white pooch, she's of course super picky about what she eats.

I want to share one of my homemade recipes which is perfect for puppers with sensitive tummies. Feel free to modify as needed, depending you’re dog’s food sensitivities. For example, pumpkin makes a great alternative to the peanut butter in this recipe.

Not only are these cookies gluten-free, but they're rich in dietary fiber and high in healthy fats.

Keep in mind, moderation is key - so although these are healthy, I don’t recommend letting fido feast his face at the all you can eat cookie buffet. :P

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup organic oats, ground to flour
  • 1 cup organic coconut flour
  • 2 tbsp organic ground flaxseed
  • 1 cup organic natural peanut butter
(can substitute sweet potato or pumpkin)
  • 3/4 to 1 cup of unsweetened coconut milk (or water)
  • 1 egg

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 350F

  • In a large bowl combine your dry ingredients and the egg. Add in the peanut butter and coconut milk. Mix until the dough becomes thick and sticky. I prefer to use fun shape paw print silicone cookie molds, however you can roll the dough into small ½" balls and place on parchment paper – whatever your preference may be.

  • Depending on the size of your cookies, bake for about 20 minutes, until golden.

  • I recommend storing these in an air tight container in the fridge, or if you are making a big batch, pop them in the freezer and they will stay fresh for a couple of months. They make great gifts too!
