Merlin and Cleopatra

in #animals7 years ago

Tonight I returned home from work and instead of the usual greeting there was silence. Nothing. I wondered why because usually I'd be greeted by two little bundles of joy, however tonight... A conspicuous silence. I dropped my keys, phone and Macbook on the counter and went to search them out.

It wasn't long before I came across them...Sleeping in the theatre room.

They didn't even wake up and I felt a little cheated of my usual friendly greeting, cuddles and then demands for dinner but it didn't last long. I can't be mad at these two for very long at all however. I managed to grab my camera and snap this picture before they woke up and realised their source of food was home. Cats huh?

In the picture you will see Merlin on the left, a stray that arrived at our back door one day many years ago. He is 20 years old. On the right is Cleo (Cleopatra). We rescued her at the age of 5 weeks from a couple of lads who were up to no good. She is 6 years old now. From the moment we brought Cleo into the house these two have been inseparable. They do everything together and, as you can see, don't mind a bit of head-to-head sleeping action. Quite often they can be found sleeping side by side, Merlin with his front paw around Cleo in a protective hug. Here's the two of them on our bed...Their bed more accurately! :)

My wife and I are a childless couple and as such put a lot of love into our two cats. My wife calls them her fur babies and she is going to be devastated when we lose Merlin. At 20 that can't be too far away I guess. We are also concerned about how Cleo will cope once Merlin is no longer with us. It's amazing how easily these little things endeared themselves to us and how much pleasure they bring to our lives; And yet how much sorrow we will feel when they leave us. The dichotomy of pet ownership I guess.

I recall saying to my brother that I wouldn't post endless images and videos of my cats on steemit and I've been true to my word in the main only having posted twice before. I wanted to share them with you tonight though. If my cat post offends you in any way that's completely cool, just click through and look at something else. Ok, so right now it's time to go and play with Merlin an Cleo...

Touching post galenkp It was weird though because I just got finished on one about a cat we saw in Lucca. I’m not a big pet guy but when our family dog had to be put down due to age, I got pretty damn emotional. He was there for years and then one day he wasn’t. It’s a rough adjustment, I won’t lie.

I hear you. We pour so much effort and love into these little things knowing that we’ll out-live them.

I got this little bub as a gift for my wife. Called her Dixie, (after the Dixie Chicks band). We lost her at 6 years old because someone kicked her. We spent $3,000 trying to fix her but she drowned in her own fluids. My wife was utterly shattered. Inconsolable. I put on a brave face but that night broke down.

I dealt with the perpetrator.

Losing your pet dog must have been terrible. As blokes we are supposed to be stoic and may but that shit just breaks me up.

I’m lookin forward to the Lucca gatto post.

How we love our furry friends.

:)

These guys are adorable. Its funny I see this post now, contemplating the mortality of my own cat (she's 5) due to the fact that in the last week while out on a run, I've seen two cats in two different locations eviscerated by traffic.

Not witnessing the event, but the aftermath. It makes it all the more important to cherish them while they're with us.

Mia, our cat is an indoor one so I don't need to worry about traffic.

They are! We keep them inside too. Merlin loves going out but we limit it. I agree, they are pretty precious in our lives (for people that love cats) and we should cherish them.

I like your post kepo posting always
Best of luck forever

Great post. I and my wife have one cat and he is our boy. We love him so much. I love people who like animals. Have a nice day

They are so cute! Thanks for the post and photos. How about my cat :)

it is seen that the two kittens love each other very much, and that both you and your wife adore them and if Merlin is already in an old age but he is positive that Merlin will live for many more years.

They are adorable!!

Yeah, we think so too. Both such good-natured cats. Affectionate and with amazing personalities.

Not a cat person but understand the love for furbabies. I have a sausage dog who's now 15. She's still my puppy but is hard of hearing so often I find her sleeping. Problem is that she sleeps at the front door and doesn't wake until she's sliding across the floor as the door opens. Some days she surprises me with some puppy love at the door but most love is given around dinner time. Haha sometimes she even dances for her dinner.

My wife had a sausage dog as a child/early teenager. She loved it. Called it Shelley. I think whether it's a dog, cat, budgie, fish or whatever the emotion towards a pet is pretty much the same. A mate of mine has a saltwater crocodile in his back yard. He loves Spikey as much as I love my cats. I'm going to do a post on Spikey one day. :)

Saltwater wow! Thats awesome and scary at the same time. That would be an interesting read.

It should be a good read. I'll get it done one of these days, with pictures of me holding Spikey. :)

Salty's get pretty big. You may just have to sit on him. Lol..

Lol. He’s not that big yet, but good idea. Steve Irwin style.
