Thanks to a friend who posted this gem on the facebook event feed. I feel it's the perfect thumbnail for this post. Yes, I, Opal, have good design sense as well!

It was a warm summer day. I could not sleep all night thinking about how everything might change after the big day. How I would be able to be with Deegan together for the rest of my life. No more lonely days on the comfy bed while both the parents are out working. Napping, drinking water, barking at stray sounds... Pawing my toys pretending they would get up run so that I'd have something to chase. Watching the window as I lay sideways, and as the day turns from bright and sunny and then dimming to darkness.

Two dog families would be one, and we would be one big happy family living on a large plot of land. Sigh. I'm getting ahead of myself. First the wedding!

Here the two of us are, all dressed up. Yes it's bad luck for the groom to see me before it starts, but it's okay. We look dashing, dont' we?

Deegan's just chilling here, while the others set up for picnic and wait for others to arrive.

The ceremony begins. Deegan is ready to receive me. The wedding march begins to play, and I strut down the aisle with my father in tow. Wow, there are a lot of faces and cameras. The only thing you can hear is a repeated "Awwwww". I'm not sure humans get that amount of showering affection.

The father in law is also the officiant, and begins to speak in a bluetooth karaoke microphone thingy.

"Dearly beloved....we are gathered here today..."

I'm spacing out. Why am I sitting here?

"Do you, Deegan, take Opal to be your wedded wife... for better or worse... dog treat or no dog treat..."

Did someone say treat?

"Just give us a paw"

I give my paw out because I know that trick. For some reason that's not what they want. Fine I'll go wander a bit...

"Deegan, paw"

Cheering ensues. Maybe Deegan is nervous. I'm starting to get bored so I am wandering away.

"Opal come back here!"

Oh right, getting married. Okay. Sitting.

"And Opal, do you take Deegan..."

Laying down.

"... forever until death do us part... If you do so give us a paw"

The paw is given. More awwing and cheers. What a strange day.

"And by the power vested in me by Taiwan, Puerto Rico, the state of New York, and the king of the dogs, I now pronounce you dog and dog. You may lick the dog."

And cue the exit music. I'm excited and pretty antsy so now I'm running in circles around the park area.

Reception time! This was the cake for the humans.

This was the miniature cakes that we got to eat. Dog friendly cupcakes! (The ones marked with the bone).

And so we got to play around for the rest of the day. You can see here how thrilled we are to be here.

The first dance with the father. I'm very good at being on my hind two legs. Lots of practice and treat excitement. That was a nice moment. I forgot what song it was though. I don't think I can distinguish songs anyhow though.

Guests that came also sent gifts. Lots and lots of treats showered on us. I can't wait to eat them!

As is customary in some wedding cultures, the two families exchange gifts. This was given to the groom's family. I assume I'll be able to eat some of that too!

Anyway, whew. What a day. That was a nice day. Since that day I've only seen Deegan once though. So I guess things didn't turn out as I'd hope, but I guess that was too much to expect. A dog can dream though. Maybe one day it will happen.

Sort:

Here's another 'Aawwwwww'.
Just had a cuteness overload. That pic of you dancing with Deegan in the yellow dress is gawwwjuss!
Happy days!

Lol - sounds like a good time was had by all. Too bad they haven't gotten to see each other but once since the ceremony. ;) Very cute idea. :)

Humans do the darndest things :)
