A GIRL'S BEST FRIEND 🐶 // PLUS VEGAN DOG FOOD RECIPE!
Hey Guys!
I hope you are doing well. Today was a BEAUTIFUL day in Orange County, California with blue skies and a warm sun!!!☀️ It's been off and on raining for the past couple of weeks now, and the sun has been scarce. I don't know about you guys but I do not think that I could live in a place where the sun is scarce. I thrive off sitting in the sun and enjoying the warmth of the sun's rays. Today I walked my pup 5 miles, sat in the sun, drank some amazing pressed juice, did an amazing yoga flow underneath the warmth of the sun.
Meet Coconut, also known as Coco, my boyfriend's family dog. Luke's family rescued Coco on Valentine's Day 2016 from the local pound and we couldn't imagine life without her today! Coco is the sweetest soul I have ever met. She loves to snuggle, go on fun adventures, take naps, and be with Luke and I wherever we go. We are the luckiest dog owners because she is so well behaved.
Coco is truly our best friend and we love giving her new adventures everyday. When we first adopted her from the pound, the pound recommended that we start feeding her dog kibble with chicken broth since that would be "easy on her stomach" since she was going to have so many different changes in her life including a change of environment. After a few months of trying this out, we noticed that she would throw up her food not too long after she ate it and her stomach would make loud gargling sounds. She also didn't get very excited when we prepared her food for her so we knew that it was time to switch up her food.
Luke's brother had raised his dog vegan, so we decided to try out a vegan dog kibble while still adding chicken broth to ease her into the change of food. After trying this food out for a while, we noticed that Coco was still throwing up her food not too long after she ate it, so we came to the conclusion that we were going to make her food ourselves! Once we started making Coco's food from scratch, we noticed that she got way more excited to eat, enjoyed every last bit of it, wouldn't throw the food up, and had way better bowel movements! Now that puts a smile on my face!! ☺️
Today I wanted to share the recipe with you for Coco's vegan dog food so that you can try it out on your pup if you ever feel like it!
COCO'S VEGAN DOG FOOD
INGREDIENTS:
1 large pot full of chopped Sweet Potatoes
4 cups of Green Lentils
4 cups of Rolled Oats
1 full tub of Creamy Peanut Butter, no salt
Safflower Oil
Green Mush Supplement, Compassion Circle
VegeDog Supplement, Compassion Circle
VegeYeast Supplement, Compassion Circle
DIRECTIONS:
- Thoroughly wash Sweet Potatoes to remove any dirt. Then chop up into medium sized pieces, leaving the skin on, and place into a large pot. Fill the pot up with water about 1-2 inches above the Sweet Potatoes and bring to a boil. Once boiling, cook until the potatoes are soft to the touch. Drain the potatoes, place into a large Tupperware and mash. Store in refrigerator throughout the week.
- Rinse the green lentils and look for any "bad" lentils and remove from bunch. Place lentils into a medium sized pot, fill the pot up with water about 1-2 inches above the lentils and bring to a boil. Once boiling, let simmer for 15-20 minutes or until the lentils are soft to the touch. Drain the lentils and let cool. Place into a medium sized Tupperware bin for storage. Store in refrigerator throughout the week.
- Place 4 cups of Rolled Oats into a microwave-safe Tupperware. Place 5 cups of water over the oats and place into the microwave for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, mix in the full tub of Creamy Peanut Butter and place back into the microwave for 3 minutes. After done, thoroughly mix the rolled oats and peanut butter to the texture that you desire and let cool. Store in refrigerator throughout the week.
- When it's time for your pup to eat dinner, place 1 large scoop of each of the three ingredients, Sweet Potatoes, Lentils and Oats, into your pup's food bowl. Next, heat up some hot water, I like to use my tea maker, to pour over the food to heat it up and mix.
- After you've mixed the food, add all three of the supplements and oil. I usually add 1 tablespoon of each supplement and dribble 1 tablespoon of oil over the top of the food at the end before serving.
- Let your pup ENJOY!!!
I hope you enjoyed this post! Coco is our best friend and she absolutely LOVES her food. Next time you run out of dog food, try this recipe out to see how your pup enjoys it! I guarantee it will not disappoint.
