BENEFITS OF WEARING A COLLAR FOR CATS

Adorable cats without a collar

Today there is the general misconception that collars aren't meant for cats. Some people believe the cats are wild, free and don’t really need any form of collars or necklaces. However, this is not anything close to the truth because a recent study has shown that cats adapt very well to wearing collars.

A cat with its' collar

Let us look at the three main reasons your cat needs a collar.

  • It helps you tell from two identical cats
In a case where you have two identical cats, it could be challenging telling one from the other. Though some cat owners could boast of their ability to do so, it is not really easy especially when you are not around and one needs the attention of a vet? Collars will help your cat sitter identify and differentiate them easily.
  • It can reunite you and your cat
At some point, your cat may get missing during its venture outdoor, irrespective of how vigilant you could be. Though your kitty may be microchipped, it is still essential it wears a collar. This is because not everyone has a microchip scanner to identify it. But a simple tag with your phone number increases the chances of being reunited with your kitty when missing.
  • It can serve as a kitty medical-alert bracelet
Tags with medical inscriptions on the collar could be used as a medical-alert bracelet. This tells what disease condition your kitty is currently undergoing. While this may sound a bit abnormal to some owners, displaying what sickness your kitty has, however, it comes with its own advantage. When your cat gets missing and is found either by a neighbor or an animal-control official, he will easily detect that your kitty needs veterinary care. That’s a big one because those who may want to take your cat in are simply discouraged to do so.

A quick release mechanism cat collar

Several types of collars are available today but it is recommended that you choose one designed with a quick-release mechanism. When your cat gets hooked on an object during an outdoor venture or when lost, it won’t have to struggle so much to get away from the object. The pressure is enough to let it loose to prevent any further injury or even death from strangling. In addition, finding the collar on the ground could give you clue to the whereabouts of your lost kitty when outdoor.
Having a collar simply seems like the safest way of making sure the life of the cat is secured.
