My Favourite 2018 Angpao

Happy Chinese New Year to all my fellow Steemians who are celebrating this festive season.

As for my entry for the best looking angpao organized by @howtostartablog, I choose the angpao packet from Samsung!

What attracted me most on this particular angpao, besides its colourful design, is the meaning which I personally interpreted on the design of the said angpao.

I have actually shortlisted the following 3 angpao that portray what Chinese New Year meant for me:-

Well, for me Chinese New Year is the only one particular day where I have a chance to meet ALL my uncles, aunties, my nephew and nieces and enjoy our reunion dinner together! We have a very big family and I hardly recognized my nieces and nephews who’s grown so much since I last saw them during the reunion dinner last year. Now they even bring their boyfriend and girlfriend along to introduce them to the rest of the families!

Well, back to the angpao design from Samsung; it has the dishes which is significant to the Chinese New Year auspicious dishes. Unfortunately, I can’t recognize or certain of all the dishes except for the followings:-

1. The centre of the table is the Prosperity Salad or ”Yu Sheng” which symbolize prosperity and good health. It is believed that the higher you toss the Yee Sang into the air, the more luck will come to you!
2. Steamed fish: as the Chinese saying goes “nian nian you yu” which means “abundance and prosperity every year”
3. Whole steamed chicken signifies family togetherness.
4. As for Dumpling “gen shui jiao zhi” which means “ring out the old year and ring in the new year”
5. Shrimp or “ha” which sounds like “laughter” hence symbolize happiness and good fortune.
6. Lettuce or ”sang choi” sounds like “to grow luck” hence symbolize growth of luck good fortune.

Unfortunately, I can’t read Chinese character, maybe someone could kindly translate what was written in the angpao.
