Thanks Luke! Working on a name right now for a podcast I'm starting, focusing on bringing clarity & new ideas out of these sorts of conversations. So far they're all far too alliterative haha. Philosophical Fusion I really like, but people keep telling me not to alliterate so much.
Haha I empathize with your problem, I always name things so overly poetic. I called my old radio show Aural Linguistics, and a D&B night I did Positive Friction, a couple examples X ) Why can't I just call it Pool Party or something normal people will remember lol
There are other reasons that I have a problem with UBI besides state violence, but I agree that if experiments are being done via voluntary means, there is no moral injection to it, just a utilitarian one.
Sorry for the delayed response. My problem with it is that I think it's a waste of money. I don't think it will be necessary as automation accelerates and I don't think it would be effective .
I theorize that as automation increases, the need for people to work (in the sense that we understand it today) will decrease. This does not necessarily mean that they will lose any means for income. There will always be things that we can do for each other that will warrant an exchange of some sort of money to provide income. What that will look like when nobody has what we currently think of as jobs, I'm not sure, but I am pretty sure that people won't suddenly be worse off when they don't have them. The opposite has always been true historically, and I think it will continue to be so.
The other part of why I'm opposed to UBI is that I don't think it will work even if we were to need it. I think that once UBI proceeds on for some time, the specific amount of money everyone is receiving will become comparably worthless due to rising prices driven by people who are willing to work over people who are willing to just subsist off of the UBI; and that in order for it to keep working, massive monetary inflation will have to occur to support cost of living increases, or that money will need to be taken from the hides of the productive workers directly like is done now. In essence, the same problems we have with the current welfare state (minus some of the inefficiencies of bureaucracy of course).
Well, you definitely don't need to read them in order, except for reading Look to Windward sometime after Consider Phlebas.
What are your feelings on ebooks? I feel like a Kindle would be great for you, considering how much you travel. (Travel was a nightmare for me book-wise before I got my kindle.)
I know I don't have to, but I do generally prefer to read things in chronological order. If nothing else, to be able to watch the progression of the writer's mind.
I tried a kindle at one point, but I have trouble reading a screen for more than 15 minutes or so.. Hence my interaction with the internet being almost exclusively creating content haha
I figured out a little late that when I read ideas out of chronological order I robbed certain ones of their genius. Hard to do when it is all sort of presented buffet style, but something I'm more aware of now
Excellent post. That Gandhi quote.. Doesn't that break it down. If you want to live in peace, government has to go because it IS violence and it will never ever let us live in peace.
Government is an antiquated idea whose time is over and I thank all who shine a light on this fundamental truth.
Truth is the only rightful authority over us and

Go @adamkokesh who's running for "President" to end the Federal Government. That's about the only thing that could get me to vote.
late 14c., "act or manner of governing," from Old French governance "government, rule, administration; (rule of) conduct" (Modern French gouvernance), from governer "to govern, rule, command" (see govern). Fowler writes that the word "has now the dignity of incipient archaism," but it might continue useful in its original sense as government comes to mean primarily "the governing power in a state."
late 14c., "act of governing or ruling;" 1550s, "system by which a thing is governed" (especially a state), from Old French governement "control, direction, administration" (Modern French gouvernement), from governer "to govern" (see govern). Meaning "governing power" in a given place is from 1702. Compare governance.
Yes, governance means rules, government means rulers. Rules are fine as long as we are agreeing to them voluntarily, rulers are also fine if we agree to them voluntarily. For example, there are rules and rulers (government and governance) on steemit. But both are fine because we can choose to be here and be governed by these rules and rulers.
How does this work when I am born into a State with preexisting rules and governance? I have no real choice. My "choice" is to accept that governance or go somewhere else. Governments typically last longer than a lifetime and the consent to govern could be many generations old.
That is the primary argument against our current governments. They force you to be governed just because you were born into their borders. Hopefully someday we can work to a point where we don't need coercive governments anymore and all our "rulers" will be chosen by ourselves voluntarily.
But we are always born into the existing set of rules whether those of a centralized government or a small tribe of hunter gatherers. There may have been a time when a person could leave their tribe and strike out alone, but that time is long gone. And even then, joining a new tribe would have required consent to their rules.
Yeah, I don't know what the answer is, or if it is even possible but that is what I believe is the morally correct way to have a government. @bitnation might be a step in the right direction though.
Congratulations! This post has been upvoted from the communal account, @minnowsupport, by kennyskitchen from the Minnow Support Project. It's a witness project run by aggroed, ausbitbank, teamsteem, theprophet0, someguy123, neoxian, followbtcnews, and netuoso. The goal is to help Steemit grow by supporting Minnows. Please find us at the Peace, Abundance, and Liberty Network (PALnet) Discord Channel. It's a completely public and open space to all members of the Steemit community who voluntarily choose to be there.
If you would like to delegate to the Minnow Support Project you can do so by clicking on the following links: 50SP, 100SP, 250SP, 500SP, 1000SP, 5000SP. Be sure to leave at least 50SP undelegated on your account.
I am curious about the "Liberty Professionals" badge, is there a page for the group or a list of people involved? Also checked out bipcot, that's great stuff.
You may want to consider using the #informationwar (of @informationwar) as a tag, there are many libertarians/voluntaryists/anarchists associated with the project.
Yes, Liberty Professionals is an idea myself and @grow-pro have hoped to further. There's no club or official organization. We just hope that people using the tag and title are seeking to further individual liberty. I call those people my friends and Liberty Professionals.
My PI business has the same name, and I own the domain for it as well. Anyone wanting to use the title is free to use it though of course. There are no IP issues at all. It's a good term for a lot of what many of us are doing, and the idea was also to have a LinkedIn and Craigslist type community for liberty lovers under the same name.
Steemit made those ideas moot. We can do it all here! :)
You may want to check out @informationwar as well, I think it would appeal to you. I am reworking my signature and would be interested in using a libertyprofessionals badge, as I am trying to slowly network most of the smaller voluntaryist/libertarian diaspora on Steemit. Could you point me to where I could find one (without a username on it)? Web search no returns unfortunately. Followed.
Excellent post, Kenny. I really love how your approaching this search for synthesis. :)

I immedietly started thinking of names like Philo Funk hahah and then was like, I'm not helping haha

Would you mind discussing what your other problems with the concept are?

Nice observation. In my view: "That government is best which governs least." Henry David Thoreau – 1817 - 1862
Can't go wrong with Iain M. Banks!
SOOOOO GOOOOOD!
I'm like 4 books into the Culture and I've been having trouble finding the next book, though I have a few after it haha

Great post @kennyskitchen. I was one of those people a few years ago and now I finally feel awake.
I found anarchopulco this year was a great place to meet like minded souls. Hopefully I will see you there next year.
There's a lot of information in this post so it will take some time to digest it all!
Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work!
Cheers
Alan
Thanks @nalabra!
Isn't it wonderful to see, to experience, how quickly the human mind/consciousness can expand and explore?
I will definitely be there, as well as at @anarchaforko pt. 2!
See you there!
Is there a difference between governance and government?
Not much :-/
Governance:
late 14c., "act or manner of governing," from Old French governance "government, rule, administration; (rule of) conduct" (Modern French gouvernance), from governer "to govern, rule, command" (see govern). Fowler writes that the word "has now the dignity of incipient archaism," but it might continue useful in its original sense as government comes to mean primarily "the governing power in a state."

Meaning "governing power" in a given place is from 1702. Compare governance.
So how does a business operate without governance? Or Steemit?
Yes, governance means rules, government means rulers. Rules are fine as long as we are agreeing to them voluntarily, rulers are also fine if we agree to them voluntarily. For example, there are rules and rulers (government and governance) on steemit. But both are fine because we can choose to be here and be governed by these rules and rulers.

I got it from the guys in the Liberty Professionals room on SteemitChat. @finnian and @grow-pro run the room :-)
I'll check that out and maybe add it to my list of tags. Usually the hard part is narrowing it down to 5 haha!
I know, getting down to 5 tags is always a challenge. Checking out more of your work, I like your approach.
