The Sharing Economy...
In this time of great innovation and opportunity to "think outside the box" the wearier I feel. We have come to the point of so much financial instability for most because of the greed of a few that we are actually in the process of deconstructing the world economy.
We are "taking our financial life in our own hands" by the sharing economy which to be honest is just a rehashing of what we have now and what has been happening for decades. The unions are being destabilized, companies won't give real benefits and the normal person is working themselves nearly to death-and at the end of it all, will there be any income left for the years they cant work?
The sharing economy seems to be sharing the wealth with only a few with no guarantees for the workers. I don't care who you are, without your workers you just have a good idea. In the case of Uber, we know that they've sidestep MANY laws in many places which ultimately coasts the tax payer, but people need to work-and unfortunatley many politicians don't get that and are not coming up with alternatives. We also know Uber hurt a lot of their drivers who trusted them and then saw their incomes slashed. And now Uber is working hard on driverless cars-Uber whom you may recall swears up and down that they are NOT a transit company! This way they refuse to pay transit required bills and throw their drivers under the bus if they get caught in restricted areas!
Some Air B&B participants are evicting long term residents to operate sometimes illegal hotels. It seems everything that is deconstructed to benefit everyone ends up just hurting masses of people. Yet as I stated, there really are not that many alternatives, with crippling debt, especially student loans; everyone has to hustle. It seems we are really burning the candle at both ends here, so what do we do?
Go along to get along? How do we prepare for the inevitable sharing bubble bust? It may take 10 years but it's coming along with automated cars. So, I have decided to ride it out where/when I can and prepare.
Yeah, I know. Sounds really shitty, but really at this point, it's ingrained in our culture to expect to summon anything with the magic of our smart phones and that's not going away. Our world is getting smaller and so are the resources and we are still just trying to keep our heads above water. What happened? It really doesen't matter right now. Right now I am eating lunch then going Online on the Postmates app.
Please don't judge me to harshly.
