RE: Fireside chat with Nate the anarcho-steemian
Thanks for the tag! Yes, I think it is a good idea tag wise. Sadly, there are a lot of control freaks on here, so having a tag for steemians who are seeking to further individual liberty is wonderful.
I'm not so sure about resteems anymore. I've had my posts resteemed by people with thousands of followers in the past. It really didn't help much. I used to think they were very powerful until a simple truth dawned on me from being here a while.
That truth is that almost no one watches their feed. I certainly do not and have not since I was only around 200 followed. It is impossible to keep up with to be honest. Instead of my feed, I use GINAbot. That's how I found this post for example. The bot tells me any time I'm tagged in a post.
You can also set it up to look for key words. I have mine looking for things like:
Private Investigator
Residential Security
Home Security
Security Camera
Voluntaryist
Voluntarist
Then each day I go through the messages GINAbot sends me on discord. It is a simple thing to setup too. Here are the instructions from my promising new user introduction information:
There's one good bot worth mentioning for new users. It is called GINAbot, and you can use it to keep track of things the makerwannabe site above cannot easily do. For example, GINAbot will tell you when a key phrase is used, when you or someone else is mentioned by account name, or even if someone deletes a comment. The bot is extremely powerful and free. Simply add the following Discord server:
When you connect to it, it will ask you to register and verify your account with a .0001 SBD or STEEM transfer. Then you will get a direct message from the bot with a private link to your configuration page. Go there to setup your options. The entire process takes 5 minutes, and it will be up and running. You can tweak the settings as you go too. I highly recommend people use it for networking purposes.
I like that fire pit as well. You need to make one from bigger wheels next time? ha ha More fire!!! :)
P.S. I forgot the primary tip for building your network and finding friends on here. It is to engage people in replies to their posts and to their comments on yours. Lots of people will come here, post a small amount of text, and not engage. Then they wonder why their accounts are not doing well. Your fire pit is a good way to explain it actually. Steemit is the fire pit. We are all sitting around it. If no one talks to each other, what's the point, right?
I was setting up Gina yesterday actually. I'm gonna optimize it that way as well, I think it'll really streamline things as the community and my presence here grow. Previously I had capped the number of people I follow at 60, but I found myself being too centralized. That's not very blockchain of me ;)
I try to keep up with my core, which is growing. But the feed does get gummed up often. I'm playing with Gina, setting up to get post notifications for people that interact well and often so that I can try and return the favor. Interaction is what makes this place really shine.
The next pit will be giant and semi-permanent. The new house has a big patio and a big concrete pad. One of my ongoing projects is going to be an outdoor living and entertaining space.
