Nowadays, every businessman, athlete or professional with high demands wants to work to the maximum of his possibilities.

To achieve this, it is essential to have a well-ordered life discipline, with a special focus on diet, sleep quality, and exercise routine. But even with these three elements perfectly in order, you can still optimize much more the functioning of the human brain, with the help of specific supplements that improve cognition, memory, humor and motivation without having undesirable side effects: nootropics, or smart drugs.

It is important to distinguish between nootropics and psychostimulant drugs such as Ritalin or Adderall for example. Ritalin, Adderall and amphetamines are efficient to improve cognition and motivation temporarily but the more they are used, the more they lead to undesirable side effects. Therefore, they are not suitable for sustainable consumption, unlike nootropics that not only improve cognition and motivation, but can also be taken without risk in the long term.

Having said that, I have compiled a classification of the 10 best nootropics (in terms of proven effectiveness, ease of administration and sustainability) according to MY experience:

10) PIRACETAM

The ancestor of all nootropics and one of the most used by those who want to optimize their mental abilities. Piracetam (trademark in Mexico: Nootropil ) was synthesized for the first time in Belgium in 1964. The chemist who synthesized it, Corneliu E. Giurgea, was impacted by its ability to improve cognition without having undesirable side effects.

There are many scientific studies that prove that it is very effective in slowing the deterioration of the mental faculties of the elderly. More scientific studies are needed to draw definitive conclusions as to their effectiveness in younger people but there are many reports that confirm that it can work for all age groups.

The effects of Piracetam are subtle and there are people who do not notice them, probably because the normally recommended dose (800mg, 3 times a day) is too low. Actually to take advantage of its effects 100%, it is recommended to take at least twice this dose.

In general, the most notable effects of Piracetam are an improvement in memory and verbal fluency .

9) L-THEANINE + CAFFEINE

Without a doubt the most popular combination among users of nootropics. L-Theanine is an amino acid found mainly in green tea ( Camellia Sinensis ). Its ingestion increases the alpha waves in the brain and therefore promotes a feeling of relaxation. It is synergistic with caffeine: the effects of the two substances are reinforced when they are consumed together. 8) NOOPEPT

The Noopept (GVS-111) was developed in Russia, like many other nootropics on that list. It is a modified peptide, derived from Piracetam. It consists of proline , glycine and a phenylacetyl group .

There is a misinterpreted data that says that "the Noopept is 1000 times more powerful than the piracetam". That does not mean that its effects are 1000 times more powerful than piracetam but that the efficient dose of piracetam (that is, the dose from which the effects are felt) is about 1000 times higher than the efficient dose of noopept.

The noopept has scientifically proven neuroprotective properties and improves the immune system . Its effects on cognition vary considerably among each user: some report a very strong improvement of mental focus and memory while others do not feel effects. Therefore, most of the community of nootropic users consider noopept as a substance with quite inconsistent effects.

The noopept is the cheapest of the nootropics (each dose comes out in about half weight).

7) ANIRACETAM

Liposoluble derivative of piracetam also considered as an ampakine . More powerful and stimulating than Piracetam, Aniracetam is one of the most used and popular racetams. Like most substances of the racetam family, it was developed primarily to combat the effects of mental deterioration in the elderly but is also used as a nootropic agent in younger people. Its use is safe and has no undesirable interactions.

In general, those who use it report quite powerful anxiolytic effects , together with an improvement in mental focus . It is probably the most "social" substance of the racetam family. Unfortunately, its effects last a short time (around 3 hours).

6) PRAMIRACETAM

Another compound derived from Piracetam, Pramiracetam is generally considered to be the least stimulating of the racetams. Nor is it a compound that promotes social activities: on the contrary there are users who report that the Pramiracetam takes away the desire to participate in social activities ("Spock effect").

5) TIANEPTINE

The sodium of tianeptine was initially developed as anti-depressant by the Servier laboratories. However, because of its unique mechanism of action (modulator of glutamate receptors in the CA3 region of the hippocampus and weak agonist of mu-opioid receptors), it has a proven positive impact on cognitive abilities and does not generate undesirable side effects. Like classical anti-depressants (selective inhibitors, the reuptake of serotonin), it is also considered as a nootropic ... An excellent nootropic according to its users.   It is worth mentioning that tianeptine sulfate , developed in 2014 by Ceretropic , is considered to be a more powerful version, whose effects last between 2 and 3 times longer than those of tianeptine sodium.

4) PHENYLPIRACETAM

Neurostimulant with a structure very similar to piracetam (more accurately it is the phenylated version). Unlike piracetam, Phenylpiracetam (trade names: Carphedon , Phenotropil ) can easily cross the blood-brain barrier and therefore have a direct action on the brain. It is undoubtedly one of the most stimulating nootropics on the market (and therefore its consumption is not authorized in sports competitions).

Its reported effects are the following:

Because of its very consistent effects, Phenylpiracetam is one of our favorite substances. Unfortunately, the organism's tolerance to phenylpiracetam rises quite quickly and that's why when it is used more than once or twice a week, it begins to lose its effects.

3) BROMANTANE

Bromantane (trade name: Ladasten ) was developed in Russia at the end of the 1980s. It is a stimulant nootropic, but it is unique in that it also has anxiolytic properties. It is classified in the family of act protectors , that is to say synthetic adaptogens with a significant capacity to improve the physical and mental performance without increasing the consumption of oxygen or the production of heat.

Scientific studies have shown that it is effective in the treatment of asthenic disorders, and also to stimulate the immune system.

We can say with certainty: if there was not the obstacle of the administration route (intravenous or intramuscular 5 times a week for a month ...), Cerebrolysine (commercial name in Mexico: Renacenz ) would be number 1 of that classification since it is the only compound of this list whose effects can almost compete with those of the NZT-48 of the film Limitless (Sin Limits).

This miraculous compound is a polypeptide preparation that stimulates neurotrophic regulation in the central nervous system . It is the only known treatment that not only helps fight the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease but also has a direct impact on its causes .

When a young person in good health applies the treatment, the effects are impressive: strong mood improvement, annihilation of anxiety, drastic improvement of memory and cognition, even in a state of sleep deprivation ... A pity that the cost is so high and that the route of administration is almost prohibitive because otherwise it would be the perfect nootropic.
