Did you know that there are ants that become "zombies" when infected by a fungus?
Perhaps this is the strangest thing that happens to ants, and is that there is a kind of ant called "Camponotini" that become "zombies", being infected and kidnapped by the fungus "Cordyceps unilateralis".
Like other pathogenic fungi for insects in the genus of Ophiocordyceps, C. unilateralis commonly attacks the ant "Camponotini".
The fungus finds its way under the exoskeleton of the ant, begins to consume soft tissue and takes control of your body. Soon after, by unknown mechanisms, it causes the ant to abandon its anthill.
The ant finds a leaf, bites it with a "deadly grip" and dies.
