Bottomless Brunch Gone Bad

It was bank holiday weekend so me and my girlfriends decided to go to East 59th, the new restaurant that has opened in Victoria Gate In Leeds on the Saturday. East 59th is a swanky rooftop bar and grill offering panoramic views of Leeds city centre and every weekend they have a two course brunch with “bottomless” bloody Mary’s or Prosecco for only £25.

We booked a table on the terrace for 11:45 and were excited about a nice girly catch up so we were planning it for a while via our group chat on WhatsApp. We decided to use the brunch as an excuse to dress up a bit and wear the standard girls go to outfit of - jeans and a nice top.

I even got there early I was that excited (i’m usually the late one). When we walked in it was gorgeous but super empty in fact I think we were probably the only people there at that point other than the staff. We were seated on the terrace, luckily there were huge umbrellas covering tables as it had started drizzling (Typical british weather) it was still pretty warm and bright though which was a positive.

The staff didn’t waste any time and as soon as the three of us were seated they asked us what we wanted to order. Now I'm a super “fussy” eater with a loads of dietary requirements (Gluten free, pescatarian and temporarily dairy free) so the waiter actually pulled up a chair next to me to go over what I could and couldn't order. I settled on Nachos for a starter and Eggs Royale for my main, my friends both got granola to start and one got eggs royale as a main and I talked my other friend into getting the waffles and bacon partly so I could imagine I was eating it.. I MISS WAFFLES !!!!!

The minute our food was ordered the waiter was straight over with a bottle of Prosecco to fill up our glasses, he was a funny guy and kept coming over to our table with some cheeky banter.

The restaurant was all of a sudden very full by this point, although I hadn’t actually seen anybody walk in. The food was great, the endless prosecco was great and the conversation was great. As the day went on it was clear to tell that the alcohol was going straight to our heads and the snapchat filter videos soon followed. I was taking it quite easy because I don’t usually drink a lot as i’m a lightweight and I’m a bit of a health enthusiast so I try to keep alcohol to a minimum, but one of my friends (more of a seasoned prosecco drinker) was downing glass after glass incredibly fast.

The chat had increased in craziness too we talked about booking a girls holiday right there and then and getting my friend who’d recently got ordained to marry me and my other friend as a joke. Way passed the point of being quiet lunching ladies in the corner we decided to ask our waiter (I think his name was Connor) to take a picture of us, and obviously by a picture we meant a full blown photoshoot right in the middle of the terrace. (I won't include pics of that or I’d be here all year)

Free-flowing drinks only last for 2 hours thankfully for me, I’d reached my limit a while before and had been trying to distract everyone else with rapid arm movements so they didn't see my still full glass. So the drinks ended, but my tenacious, tipsy friends were not having that and tried to flirt one more glass each out of the bar man whilst I sat giggling at the situation. After trying again with his manager it was clear that there were not going to be more free drinks and it was time to move on.
Where to next? Angelicas of course, an equally impressive rooftop cocktail bar at the other end of town in Trinity. It didn't cross my mind before we started walking there that it was only 2pm on a saturday and tipsy me would have to lead 2 worse for wear girls all the way through a busy Leeds town centre. FUN !!

This situation was what we were dealing with all the way to angelicas-

There were many looks from startled shoppers, and some disapproving head shakes, because I guess it doesn't matter if you’re a group of dressed up girls or a homeless person being slightly lairy and sizzled as early as 2pm is always frowned upon.

I successfully managed to usher them all the way Angelica but it was all too clear that one of our party had taken a turn for the worst and although We quickly tried to manoeuvre her to a table at the very back of the room she managed to knock over a chair on the way and cause a ruckus. I ordered us all some water but the bar staff clearly realised that we weren't functioning too well and gave us a warning that they wouldn't be serving us anymore alcohol (the shame). I was happy about the no more alcohol rule .. I did not want anymore!! But at the same time I felt a bit embarrassed and like a naughty child.

Things did not get better when my friend opened her mouth speak and instead something rather unpleasant came shooting out across the table like in that scene in the exorcist. Photo below (just kidding) I literally wanted a hole to appear and swallow me up. Our other friend Gary luckily (for us) arrived just at that point to assist whilst I tried to explain to the staff that we’d been at bottomless brunch and that it was not a good idea to keep supplying people with prosecco… and they completely understood and even laughed a little bit about it.. UNTIL SHE THREW UP ANOTHER 3 TIMES in their classy establishment and we were basically told, get this cleaned, get her up and get her out.

So after Gary finished admiring the waitress that he thought was fit (Really not the time or the place) we managed to contact her boyfriend and escort her into his car.

Because i'd been playing mum and being "sensible" i'd forgotten how far gone I was until the situation was over, so I got picked up and slept for the whole rest of the day.

Morale of the story - Free-flowing drinks might actually not be such a good Idea and from now on (unless at a festival) I'll only be drinking from 6pm or later as a precaution.

Plus side - I did get this great shot from Angelicas -
