Anthropologist From Another Planet. Part one
Planet Observance Journal. Subject: Earth.
Incident Report.
When I arrived at the planet the locals call Earth I put the craft in high Orbit cloaking the craft so as not to be discovered according to our rules to observe and do not participate. My work would be conducted without observation from the surface of the planet or from their thousands of what they call satellites in lower space orbit and my multiple sojourns to the surface also being cloaked.
I was able to collect all the usual data in order to show if any progress had occurred from the last planetary correction event. Unfortunately I was not able to observe much that would prevent another correction event. Though, what looked like a normal global human infestation following the same patterns of radical population increase, interspecies warfare and wide spread destruction of the ecology of the surface of the planet, an interesting development has occurred. It seems they have developed an unconscious collective drive towards acquiring the ability to store large amounts of information for long periods of time on top of developing an artificial instant global communication system for the purpose of collecting data to store. At first they attempted to use punch cards made from plant fiber in devices they called Hollerith machines but then polymers from one of their main fuel supplies that they call oil or bitumen. They then moved onto solid crystal like material or what they call a solid state hard drive. Some human made some not.
The push toward storing large amounts of information for long periods of time is the only sign of progress we've seen in a million years. It means that they want to get through the next correction event or what they call an Ice Age and maintain organizational continuity. A correction event or Ice Age if you're not familiar with it is a direct result of the wobbling planet's orbits and the repetitive human addiction to using high carbon dioxide content volatile fuels and aerosol particulate pollution that accumulate in the atmosphere, at the polls and mountain tops leading to catastrophic ice melt desalinating and therefore slowing ocean currents.
The correction event has a tendency to knock the human population down to around 25% of its peak from the beginning of the correction event which allows the ecology of the planet and the deep ocean currents to be restored to normality. This happens by massive ice sheets forming out of the northern and southern oceans and onto the land through the development of super storms as a result of the desalination of the oceans and halting ocean currents. Of course, once the correction event comes to an end the human process starts over again. Those that have survived as with all other mobile life forms are pushed toward the equator of the planet.
With organizational continuity surfacing in the human infestation at its peak this may be the actually moment when we will see them move onto the next phase of ensuring a correction event doesn't occur again after the one they are presently in. However, we have seen other planets repeat this process many times over again as it takes some time for warfare to be eradicated from the humans tissue memory.
Well, anyway, this is where the incident sprang from. It was my own sloppiness in my excitement to see the progress and wanting to get a closer look at their data storage technology I didn't realize that they might have also created a device that would be able to see through my cloaking as I walked through their tribal enclaves.
I entered one of their craft halls where these machines for storing memory were being constructed and I went over to where a group of men were looking at something with what seemed to be great excitement, almost cheering. I went and stood on the other side of the device they were facing and didn't realize that I'd stepped directly into a radioactive field. As I bent down and looked directly into the beam to get a proper reading of the beams content all the humans without exception stopped all their cheering and developed stunned looks on their faces as they stared at the device and then looked directly at the space I was standing in. To my shock I felt as if they were looking at and seeing me. To confirm any detection of my presence in the device they were looking into I quickly moved to where the humans were standing only to see an almost transparent view of some metal tool in the device. At this point the humans all looked in the direction I moved but then looked back to the device and this is where I made my biggest mistake.
To confirm that the humans had developed a device that could detect our presence among them when we are cloaked I took my hand and reached around the other side of the device and to my horror not only did I jerked back but so to did the humans at what we all saw, my hand waving up and down.
All the humans jump back and crash into things while they all stared in the space they knew I inhabited. One of the humans leaped up and grabbed the device and pointed it right at me. Well, there we were, them staring directly at my body and then my face and me staring right back at them. It was at this point that I thought it best that I depart and figure out what to do next, leave the project completely behind or figure out how to get a hold of that device to temporarily keep them blind to my presence while I observe the correction event. After I left it occurred to me that they may have captured the data of my presence.
"Holy fuck!" A tall skinny man gaffed "And this is the only way you guys could see him?"
"Yes, but he could pass through all manner of physical properties. The lab tables, chairs and walls, us." one of the men from the spoke up.
"Well, we are screwed. Once the Pentagon realizes we have developed the SBS and discovered an intelligent alien life form with it we will not be able to go to market." Tall and skinny lamented.
"George, what if we don't tell them?" Said another of the white coats.

Part Two.
For fear that the humans might be laying a trap or maybe out searching for me with their device I chose not to go back to the human craft hall and chose to go back to my Dobin craft to see if I couldn't find something that might aid me in my dilemma. Search as I might I couldn't find anything any where any other species on any other planet had created device where they actually were able to penetrate our cloaking.
My only choice to clean up the mess that I created was to get each individual into the craft and erase their memory of the incident which is an arduous task but had to be done. The danger in this strategy was in attempting to get to these individuals and bring them to the craft that I might actually be walking into a trap where they might actually attempt to capture me or gain more data of my presence. I was left sitting in the craft realizing I had no good options. So I set out to focus as much of data from the incident as I could. Focusing all of the individuals identities and the locations of each of the individuals nests. I was able to focus from the data I collected during the incident and compare that against the data I collected from all the human data storage devices in the surrounding area. During the focusing I began to sense the cloak penetrating device was moving from it's location at the human craft hall.
"Are you sure about this George?" A stressed voice blurted as the group of men old and young struggled to remove equipment from a van and place it on the loading dock.
As George punched in the security code that caused the big loading dock door to rise. "Yes, yes Sid. They think we've rented the observatory for a company party."
"But George this telescope is so enormous and slow moving we will be here for weeks." Sid complained.
"I know Sid but we might get lucky."
To my great relief all the affected humans gathered in a reasonably remote location which meant I could grab them all at once. When I arrived at the human gathering I was after as usual I had to de-cloak momentarily while I gather the humans up but to my great upset I wasn't the only Dobin there.
Well, it was Beelzebub. And I then realized he was clearly the only possible source of the cloak penetration device.
I blurted out his name which sent a shock wave of terror through the humans who now could see both myself and Beelzebub.
"Beelzebub! You were banned from this planet." I stated as I put up my shield expecting trouble.
"Don't worry I won't attack you." Beelzebub claimed "I just came to tell you that I started hundreds of projects developing this device that can see us."
At this point the humans were coming out of the shock of seeing two aliens communicate in a language they had no possibility of understanding. They started too move behind things for protection but were too entranced in their discovery of aliens amongst them to run away and this was reinforced by the earlier encounter where no harm came to them.
One of the humans had withdrawn to what they thought was a safer place but in doing so knocked over some of the equipment they brought with them causing both Beelzebub and I to look in the direction of the noise and all of a sudden Beelzebub, all the humans and the device we're gone.
Having encountered Beelzabub I was deeply disheartened and knew that there was only going to be trouble and the fact that he had created multiple projects creating the cloak penetrating device I realized we were in deep trouble. Well trouble showed up real quick as I began to sense that my craft had completely vanished. That's when I realized Beelzebub didn't have his own craft and that he was most likely trapped on planet earth from the previous period which caused his permanent ban from the Earth. This also told me that he needed my craft to erase the memories of the humans he had been manipulating into their cloak penetrating discovery. This also told me that he has a greater plan afoot coupled with the fact that he has created multiple projects most likely spread around the entire globe. Finally this is when I decided to call in reinforcements and make direct contact with the human authorities in order to quickly gather up data of possible locations of Beelzebub's other projects.
I arrived at General Marcus's office and began to speak to him in his language before I showed myself.
"General Marcus?"
"Yes" the man at his desk lifted his head looking and seeing no one. "Is there someone there?"
"Yes, but you can't see me yet."
"What?"
"I am wearing technology that makes it impossible for you to see me."
"My name is Par Dobin. I am an anthropologist from another planet within our shared galaxy."
"What is this crap?"
"I will now turn off the cloak and you will see me."
"Oh my god."
"No, not your god. Just another sentient like you."
"You look surprisingly human."
"Yes, we have know idea why but that seems to be consistent throughout the galaxy."
"Am I first contact?"
"No but no one ever remembers us. Well, at least not completely. You do have your individuals that have a better connection to themselves that have surfaced clearer memories"
The general moved his hand to a button under his desk. "Oh, you're not in danger but nothing electronic will work in this room while I am here."
"Oh."
"No, quite the contrary. I am here to ask for your assistance in tracking down a rogue member of our tribe who is introducing technology here that could be disastrous to your tribe's learning curve."
"Learning curve? What do mean learning curve?"
"Ok gentlemen, just a little bit more adjusting and you won't remember a thing."
"Oh, you want to say something? Ok but one at a time. How about you first." As Beelzebub pointed to Sid freeing him from vocal paralysis.
"Heh hem,,,So we really didn't come up with the subtle beam sight did we?"
"Sid I am never disappointed in your ability to figure things out."
"Well, I assumed that you were manipulating us in some way especially after you paralyzed us and transported us here."
"Correct again Sid. Unfortunately you won't find out in good time why because once I remove the memories I can't put them back. However if you connect with yourself more fully you will be able to retrieve it all from your tissue memory."
"Unfortunately humans are quite some time away from getting that connected. Not that we haven't tried to inspire you but when we wake one of your kind you usually end up killing him,,,,,,,,or her."
"Alright Sid, gentlemen. I will see you when I see you but you won't see me. Or remember me for that matter."
"Well General, we have found that if we try to influence human development the side effects are disastrous and when we appear physically to you what you call religious cults begin to form that have tendency to spin, as you say, out of control."
"Regardless of our good intentions we are afraid of you as you have nuclear weapons and if you got ahold of and learned our transport skills you could cause some serious damage."
"So we are waiting for you to completely disavow warfare before we expose our culture to yours. This is your learning curve"
"We evolved much the same way as you as did an almost endless amount of planets throughout the galaxy and galaxies beyond."
This is when I began to sense the craft again and that it was where I left it. But I could not sense Beelzebub which meant he was hiding out near some nuclear radiation source. I had no interest in chasing after him so I kept to my plan of rounding up the devices.
