The Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary - Prison of Lost Souls! Is it worth a visit? #photogallery
Did you know that the American gangster, Al Capone, also known as “Scareface”, was one of the first Alcatraz prisoners?
It’s been a year since I’ve visited this amazing place, full of history and legends of the darkness. Without hesitation, it’s about one of the most attractive tourist destinations around the world.
The Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary (better know just as Alcatraz) is located in San Francisco Bay (USA) and all of Alcatraz Island tours depart from and return to Pier 33 Alcatraz Landing. Depending on your needs, there are several tour options such as Early Bird Tour, Day Tour, Night Tour, Behind the Scenes Tour etc. I bought a ticket for an Early Bird Tour and it cost me around $40. My advice to you: buy online tickets on time!
If you don’t know anything about the prison, don’t worry! Self-guided audio tour is provided and it’s a perfect way to learn how to explore Alcatraz, cell blocks, library, bathroom, visitations etc. One thing is certain: you’ll be astounded by what you will see and hear!
Alcatraz was maximum high-security prison where prisoners were divided in grades, depending on the crime they committed. Officially, no one has ever escaped from there althouhg, there are many escape theories.
Inmates were served three meals per day. The men thought the food was the best in the Federal prison system, and there was plenty of it. It's interesting that the inmates ate more than 375 lbs of tomatoes per week. 5000 lbs of eggs were fried, scrambled, and boiled each year. Breakfast always included fruits such as pineapple, cantaloupe and peaches.
’’Break the rules and you go to prison. Break the prison rules, and you go to Alcatraz.’’
Because they were physically confined, most prisoners sought mental escape through books. Of course, books with sexual or criminal references were not allowed.
That's me as a prisoner.
Have a wonderful day and I hope you like the story and my photo gallery.
