Hunger for Alcantara!
Alcantara must refuse new deals because of the popularity of the material
Nothing scream "sport" like Alcantara. It seems that every fast car should have the material in its interior or at least offer it as an option, but the company that produces it can not cope with the growing demand from the automotive industry.
Italian company Alcantara S.p.A aims to double production in the coming years to meet the huge demand. Executive Director Andrea Boragno says the company can produce 8 million meters alcantara a year, which is not enough. Borango noted that 20 percent of new deals should be denied. In 2015, demand for alcantara grew by a third, and its sales tripled from 2009 to 2017. 80% of sales of the material are for the automotive industry and 60% of orders come from Europe.
