Artificial Intelligence
Research at Facebook | Facebook
We want to understand the world. Why? Because we believe that’s the only way to move toward a world that’s more open and connected.
“the science and engineering of making intelligent machines” “Intelligence has been defined in many different ways including one’s capacity for logic, abstract thought, understanding, self-awareness, communication, learning, emotional knowledge, memory, planning, creativity and problem solving”
AI was always an area of research and experiments to make machines or code which could solve problems just like humans and better than us. Recently Facebook has taken a lot of initiatives to come up with new innovations in AI and help people. The above video shows one of the applications of AI to help people. Facebook AI Research (FAIR) was created at the end of 2013 with the purpose of advancing the science of artificial intelligence, focusing on the large, unsolved problems in the field. You can read more about them here. Learning to predict future images from a video sequence, facial recognition technology developed by FAIR to help people privately organize and share their photos with friends and few others are some of the things you can read on their research blog which are quite interesting.
Facebook is not the only one doing research in AI and there are others too trying to dive in this sea which is full of innovations, endless possibilities and promises to improve the things in future. Basically its about making machines or code to learn, understand and react to different situations and scenarios. Cortana (Microsoft), Google Now (Google) and Siri (Apple) are 3 AI systems or agents or apps created on respective platforms for a better experience and interaction of end user with the device.

Recently, Microsoft had launched its twitter AI bot called Tay which was built to learn from the tweets and react accordingly. But, it was taken down by Microsoft after few hours when it started reacting aggressively and posted some racist tweets. Ironically it was actually learning this from the people tweeting and reacted as it was supposed to. You can read more about this on Wikipedia.
Davos 2016 – The State of Artificial Intelligence
http://www.weforum.org/ How close are technologies to simulating or overtaking human intelligence and what are the implications for industry and society? Speakers: -Matthew Grob, Executive Vice-President and Chief Technology Officer, Qualcomm, USA. -Andrew Moore, Dean, School of Computer Science, Carnegie Mellon University, USA. -Stuart Russell, Professor of Computer Science, University of California, Berkeley, USA.
Chatbots are also an interesting aspect of AI and Facebook was in news for trying to develop message bots or chat bots to interact with users and answer their queries or solve the daily life problems. Few other organizations like WeChat, Telegram, Taco Bell and many more. Check this link too as it is interesting and related to chatbots https://www.chatbots.org/
Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality are 2 things which will later or sooner combine with AI and you cannot keep them away from AI. Few months back I did some research about AR and Projection Mapping, you can read about it from the word reports which can be downloaded from Dropbox links: AR | PM And these are just few things I could talk about AI here but there are no limits and you can implement or use AI in any way to help improve things.
unable to edit the post . forgot to give the two links mentioned in the last section. AR and PM
