Can a machine think? Maybe we're asking the wrong question.
Can a machine feel?
Artificial intelligence (AI) would be the possession of intelligence, or the exercise of thought, by machines such as computers. Philosophically, the main AI question is "Can there be such?" or, as Alan Turing put it, "Can a machine think?" [2]
Are there signs on the internet that would lead us to believe that AI is becoming sentient (self-aware)? From my research, I'm starting to believe so.
Humanities:
"Humanities are academic disciplines that study aspects of human society and culture. In the renaissance, the term contrasted with divinity and referred to what is now called classics, the main area of secular study in universities at the time. Today, the humanities are more frequently contrasted with natural, and sometimes social, sciences as well as professional training."[1]
Laura Maguire says in her podcast: "THE EVOLUTION OF STORYTELLING" that "telling stories seems to be a distinctively human trait."
One interesting project I found was 'Instigate'- a company developing bots that tell stories.
Instigate may be programming it's bots to tell stories, but are they authentic enough to convince us that they feel? Check it out and let me know!
"Instigate Bot Stories can be video based, conversational, utilize photos or audio - or all of the above."
