Addiction and complacency.
Sometimes bad habits never die because we enjoy our misery. Be it impressing others, impressing yourself, etc. when you deny that you've a bad habit, you're just lying to yourself, because you're too scared to face your insecurities - living a facade. I'm glad I was able to break from that spiraling lifestyle. Life is short. Either you're going to waste it living a lie because you're too scared to face your fears, or you'll live it to its fullest by acknowledging altruism is a cancer. Don't grow complacent in your own misery because trying harder would mean taking a chance.
