southers' Film Review: The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas (2008), Anti-War Theme Historical Tragedy Movie

in #aaa5 years ago

"The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas" is a classic anti-war theme film directed by director Mark Herman and actors Vera Famiga and Asa Butterfield. After the film was released in 2008, it caused a lot of discussion. The film gave the creator a rethinking and criticism of the war through a special perspective. This outstanding film is adapted from John Boyne's classic work of the same name. The film is based on World War II and tells the story of the 9-year-old Bruno who moved from Berlin to the Nazi concentration camp with his father, a Nazi officer. For Bruno, 9 years old, there is nothing special about it. It's just that life is more boring. His daily pastime is to see through the window those people surrounded by barbed wire in striped pajamas walking around.

One day, Bruno broke his parents' agreement, began to play outside, and became friends with the boy Shmuel in the concentration camp. They played happily across the wire fence and told each other about the bits and pieces of life. The life inside the barbed wire ignited Bruno's curiosity, so he put on a striped pajamas and climbed into the concentration camp from the barbed wire, and his fate changed. In this film, the director uses a special narrative to describe the story, using the child's narrative perspective to observe the people and things that appear in the film, and to enhance the thinking of the adults through different perspectives. The audience reflected on the cruelty of the war and the evil side of humanity.

For Bruno, the hero of the film, he used his innocence, kindness and pureness to lead the audience to see the cruelty of the concentration camp, the lies of people and the helplessness of life. In the end, they had to have a bad fortune, which made the audience strong in watching. The film as a whole shows a sense of history that is mournful and vicissitudes in the war years. The director reproduces the clever lens language and scenes, and the film's heavy feeling is just right. The use of a series of long-range lenses makes a clear contrast between the blue sky and the innocence of children and the cold blood of the Nazis. Through the close-up, it further highlights the cold and ruthlessness of the characters' faces, and shows the people's wars with great tension.

At the same time, the director's portrayal of Bruno's encounter in the film not only shows the ideological connotation of anti-war, but behind Bruno's whole tragedy, there is a hint of irony and criticism of lies in human nature. The film will bring Bruno to death, and use one lie as a narrative node to connect together. When the viewer looks back, it will be discovered that it is this lie that makes the innocent boy step by step. In the abyss of fate, the director showed the other evil behind the war with cruel images. Throughout the film, the film tells a boy what he saw and heard in a way that is different from the traditional warfare-type film, and brought the film to the film through a subtle perspective. The film uses the sophisticated lens language and excellent narrative structure to show the cruelty of World War II, and from the perspective of humanistic care, to guide people to rethink and recognize the humanity behind the story. It can be said that this film It is not only an anti-war film, but also a far-reaching human interpretation.

My Score is 8.1/10
