Yes after eSteem opens, it should show you confirmation popup saying Do you want to open post? once confirmed it will take you to that post (this is same when you get notification for comments, vote, reblog). When you open follow and unfollow notification however, it will take you to profile page of follower. If you don't see this then there is likely an issue...which i will take a look and apply fix to upcoming release v1.4.0.
