ShortFilm: The Life Of Death (2016)

It is not as sad as you think it is, this animation made by Dutch people. Do you think so? Then you might wonder whether the Dutch look differently at death, something that is inevitable.

It is not that we do not shed a tear when life is over, that there are no quarreling families, but many do have a sober view of life that is relative. Are we raised with this? I am not sure and it is certainly not a subject that is discussed in schools. Many find it a difficult subject because how do you convey a feeling of loss that you do not feel yourself? Saying that you are "shocked" or the same old song of: he was such a sweet boy we will miss Japie terribly", while in daily life everyone gave Japie a wide berth?
That is human nature. We do not care about those who are different from us, because different is a threat.

Death. I know this person very well and, unlike many others,
He gives me peace and he also has a sweet face, even though there is a mask (fortunately not one of those stupid hospital cases). Death reminds me of "The Old Man and Mr. Smit". A Fable by Peter Ustinov (is it a fable??? ) and the deer with those soft eyes reminds me of an uncle and that completes the picture.
Death is not scary, a companion that gives peace and also wants to learn something and can wait until the candle has burned out (or the task has been completed).

Like: The way Death is drawn, the look of the deer and the music. No words are needed to make clear what the story is about, although...

Dislike: It is clear to those who read the comments that not everyone sees the story in the same way and who knows, it may have turned out differently than intended?
Masha Onderstijn worked on "Woezel en Pip" but seems to have disappeared. The YouTube channel only has this animation and the "new" site is also not very impressive and is from years ago. Strange how talent disappears from the face of the earth.

The Life of Death is a touching hand-drawn animation about the day Death fell in love with Life. After being well received on various animation festivals and being featured on the EYE film DVD of Selected Dutch Shorts it is finally online!

that was one of the most tragic and beautiful things that I have ever seen. All without a word even being spoken. Wow. I never would have seen that if not for you. Thanks so much for posting this.

Thanks for letting me know you watched it and what you saw. It's interesting how much can be shown, made clear without a single word. This also means that who observes sees more and body language can be made clear with very little movement.

A good weekend!

it's haunting. I've been thinking about this for a while now. Those sad faces on the animals gets to me. The fact that Death doesn't want to kill the deer but knows he has to is just so impactful. Somehow the deer and its quiet family life appears to make Death regret what he is and this is shown when he recoils when he accidentally touches the flowers.

I have watched this 3 times now. Just such a great animated short

Then I am still ahead of you. The flower bothers me since grass and trees don't die unless the kiss of Death only follows by the touch of his hand/s.

It's good to know that there is Death, and suffering in eternity or being partly fixed with organs and robotic parts is not how I see life.

Dying is a right and it's what Death tried to deny to a friend. Something that makes me think and should make every one ask himself: what is love? How long do we let someone suffer because of us? Pets are a good example.

Sad to me is that the deer has to ask, more than once, although her family left her behind. Also, an aspect of life. We abandon the elderly, those who can't come along and might stop us on the run to...

🍀♥️

I hadn't made the connection that the deer was elderly. I need to go and watch it again, which is just fine with me because it is so well-made.

Death is imminent. If people accept that they are going to die they could make the most of every second of their time. Life is a precious commodity that we should value, and even more so now. ¿YOU noticed how time flies? Time that must be seized. It's an individual decision each person decides what to do with their time and how to invest it. I saw the video : Death knows it causes harm, seeks to get closer, and the deer stays with it and dies in the end while the others flee. They shouldn't flee death is inevitable.
