💥Conditions for combustion💥

If we examine some facts of daily life we ​​can come to some interesting conclusions. Why does a car walk? We can answer: the gasoline that is added to the tank is the cause of the movement of the car.

💥Do you only need gasoline?💥

If we observe with a little care, we can see in the engine a device with a large mouth where the air constantly enters. Therefore, in addition to gasoline, you need air. Does a bottle of gasoline burn if we leave it uncovered? No, unless you drop a lit match or other object in the same condition. That is, gasoline ignites if it has enough air and a spark to start the process. If we take a match we will see that it is surrounded by air; but it does not ignite if we do not scrape it against the surface of the match box. Once the match is lit, if we place it in a closed container, it goes out in a few moments. From these two examples we can conclude that for the phenomenon of fire to occur, these conditions are needed:

✔️ Material capable of burning, called fuel (gasoline, phosphorous).

✔️ Material that allows fuel to burn, called oxidizer (oxygen in the air).

✔️ A spark that starts the phenomenon, ignition temperature.

As we have seen things, fuel can vary: gasoline, phosphorus, wood, coal, paper, etc.

However the simple oxidizer is in the air. What is the component of air that makes these phenomena possible?

Oxygen is the most important oxidizer in nature. It is a gas that represents approximately 21% of the air.

💥What is meant by combustion?💥

The union of a substance with oxygen, in which light and heat are produced.

When you burn the gasoline, you get the movement of the car. By burning phosphorus you get the flame that can cause many phenomena. In general, the purpose of all combustion is to obtain energy to be used by man.

💥What role does oxygen play in combustion?💥

We have already said that oxygen binds with fuel and forms new substances with it. The oxygen found in these new substances cannot be used again for other combustion. This indicates that the oxygen around the fuel is slowly being used up. What will happen if we place a lit candle inside a glass jar with the mouth facing down? As stated so far, the candle will remain lit as long as there is oxygen in the bottle; once the oxygen is consumed, the candle will go out.

✔️ For the use of fuels and obtain: light, heat, energy.

✔️ It is used in certain devices, such as torches, to obtain high temperatures that melt metals.
