Hello everyone!

Today I am here to participate in the cooking challenge organizer by @suboohi to try fried appetizers in the form of square shape samosa.

Square shape samosa

What do you understand by Fried Appetizers?

Fried appetizers are small bite-sized or snack-sized dishes. These are cooked by deep frying, shallow frying, or pan frying. These are served before the main course of a meal.

Here is the complete recipe of the dish.

  • Potatoes
  • Lentils
  • Green chillies
  • Crushed red chillies
  • Onions
  • Tomatoes
  • Black peppers
  • Salt
  • Maida(all purpose flour)
  • Cumin seeds
  • Ghee/Oil
  • Coriander leaves
  • Coriander seeds

These are all the required ingredients to make square shape samosa as baked appetizers product.

I have cut all the vegetable spices into fine pie es so that they can be used and mixed in the samosa filling easily. These will be blend completely in the filling of boiled potatoes to add great taste.

I started boiling potatoes and lentils because these will be the basics ingredients to make the filling for the samosa.

Meanwhile I have started making the dough for the samosa foldings. First of all I have taken three cups of maida. Then I have added some salt into the flour. Then I added ghee in the flour to make it crispy.

After making the dough I added cumin seeds and I started kneeding the dough again to mix them well in all the dough. Then I have made dough balls and I placed them in the plate and covered with a cloth and gave them some time to make them hard.

Here you can see potatoes have become boiled and lentils as well. Lentils are 95% boiled to have a taste of them in the filling otherwise it will be mixed completely and the tongue and teeth will not feel it's presence.

In order to make the filling for the samosa I have mixed lentils in the potatoes. Then I added all the required spices such as onions, green chillies, red chillies, tomatoes, coriander leaves, cumin seeds, coriander seeds and and black pepper powder. After mixing all these things a wonder and delicious filling for the samosa was ready. I tasted this filling and it was very tasty and I was desiring to eat it raw.

Now in order to make sheets to fill in and fry in the oil or ghee I started pressing the balls of already kneed dough with a pressor. It was converted to thin sheets.

I cut the sheets with the help of a small knife and converted then to the square shape. Now each small square shape sheet is ready to use.

I filled the square shape samosa sheets with the potatoes and lentils filling. Then I folded them to get a proper square shape. After that I have fried them in the oil.

Ready to serve

After the complete procedure our square shape samosas are ready to eat. In this way we can make baked appetizers in the form of square samosa.

Delicious taste

These are very tasty and crispy just like the samosa in the shops. The taste was amazing and I liked their taste. The inside filling and the cumin seeds on the square sheets were adding a great taste.
