O'Driscoll Camp Raid | Arthur Morgan's Untold Adventures, Part 5

After my deer-hunting adventure, I was absolutely knackered. I lay down in my room to rest, and before I knew it, I’d drifted off to sleep. But I didn’t get to sleep for long because Dutch’s voice woke me up—he seemed to be arguing with Hosea. Stretching and yawning, I sat up. My stomach was growling, and Pearson still hadn’t made the stew.

As I stepped out of my shack, I realized Dutch was telling Hosea to send someone back to the farm because Sadie Adler’s husband’s body was still lying in the same wagon where those O’Driscoll thugs had brutally murdered him. At the very least, the poor man deserved a proper burial—maybe that would bring Sadie some peace. Hearing this, I thought to myself, “Well, at least Dutch has a soft side somewhere deep down.”

Once I was outside, I figured I should check in on John. I hadn’t had the chance yet, and after everything he’d been through, he deserved a visit. When we rescued him, he was in a very critical state—badly wounded and barely holding on.

When I found him, he was surrounded by other gang members, and Abigail was sitting beside him, having a proper go at him. “Why did you have to go off playing the hero in the middle of nowhere, huh? Who in their right mind tries to fight wolves alone? Look at the state of you now!” she scolded.

John sighed, “I don’t go looking for trouble, Abigail.”

“Oh, sure, but somehow, you always manage to find it! Every single time, John! You’ve got a bloody habit of putting yourself in danger and stressing everyone out!” she snapped before getting up—probably because she’d spotted me approaching.

I sat down next to John and asked, “How you feeling, John?”

“Starving,” he groaned.

“Don’t worry,” I reassured him. “Charles and I bagged two deer, and Pearson’s whipping up a nice, hearty stew. Just hang in there a bit longer.” With that, I got up to leave, but as I was heading out, I heard Karen calling after me, “Hey, if you’re going outside anyway, check on Pearson, will you? What’s taking him so long with that stew?”

As I neared Pearson’s shed, I spotted Hosea standing outside, looking furious. At first, I thought he’d had a row with Pearson, but no—he was actually worried sick about Dutch. “Talk some sense into him, will you?” he said. “He’s lost his damn mind! We’re sitting here starving, and he’s too busy plotting an attack on the O’Driscolls’ camp. If we all end up dead tomorrow, it’ll be on his hands!”

I tried to calm him down, but he just stormed off, muttering something about me always taking Dutch’s side.

Turning to Pearson, I asked, “What’s gotten into Hosea?”

Pearson just shook his head and muttered, “Keep me out of it. My job is cooking—leave me to it.”

“Then hurry it up, please,” I said before heading off to find Dutch and figure out what exactly he was planning.

Eventually, I found out that Dutch had gathered Micah, Bill, and Lenny in a cabin and had summoned me there as well. As I approached, I saw Javier standing guard outside, gripping his gun while warming his hands by the fire. He nodded towards the cabin, signalling that everyone was inside. So, I pushed open the door and stepped in.

The place was freezing, so I walked straight over to the furnace, rubbing my hands together for warmth. At the same time, I lit a cigarette. Micah was in the middle of telling some story, and every now and then, Lenny and Bill would throw in a jab or a joke at his expense.

“When you fall, there will be a party,” Lenny quipped, glancing at Micah.

Bill burst into laughter, loud and obnoxious.

Micah wasn’t amused. “You think that’s funny, huh?” He shot to his feet and, without warning, socked Bill right in the jaw.

Before I could step in, the door suddenly swung open with a bang, and Dutch strode in.

“You guys are sitting here fighting each other while the O’Driscolls could attack us at any moment! Have you all lost your bloody minds?”

Then he laid out his plan—we were going to attack the O’Driscoll camp first, before they had the chance to come for us.

But this wasn’t just about strategy. No, Dutch had a personal vendetta against Colm O’Driscoll. Their rivalry ran deep—Colm had murdered Dutch’s lover, Annabelle, and in retaliation, Dutch had killed Colm’s brother. This was a grudge match, plain and simple.

“Mr. Matthews, Mr. Smith, Mr. Pearson—you lot stay behind and look after the camp while the rest of us take care of the O’Driscoll boys,” Dutch ordered before yanking on his horse’s reins and galloping off. The rest of us saddled up and rode after him.

We eventually reached a cliff’s edge overlooking the O’Driscoll camp. Peering through my binoculars, I spotted Colm himself, sitting on horseback. I told Dutch, but he wasn’t just after Colm—this wasn’t just about revenge. “This isn’t just about getting even,” he said. “We need food and supplies, and they’ve got plenty.”

But, of course, we weren’t going to get any of that without a fight.

We ambushed them, catching them off guard, and after a bloody battle, we came out on top. But Colm? The slippery bastard managed to escape.

We did, however, find some explosives and a stash of plans—they’d been plotting a train robbery.

Dutch was pleased with the outcome, praising us for a job well done, and we headed back to camp.

On the way, we caught an O’Driscoll member trying to flee. I chased him down, tied him up, and slung him over my horse to bring him back with us.

His name was Kieran Duffy.

Disclaimer

Arthur Morgan and the world of Red Dead Redemption 2 might be fictional creations by Rockstar Games, but my love for this game? 100% real. This is a new kind of adventure I wanted to bring to Steemit. I’m narrating the story of RDR2 from the perspective of its protagonist, Arthur Morgan, offering a fresh and immersive take on his journey. Rather than directly copying the game’s dialogues, I’m weaving Arthur’s emotions and experiences into a creative and fictional retelling. You can also experience this story in a cinematic way. I play the game, record my gameplay, edit the footage in the best possible way, and upload it to my YouTube channel. This way, after reading each story episode, you can watch it unfold like a movie.

I have read all the parts

Yeah, I saw your upvote notifications stalking me—reading all the parts and upvoting them, so I figured I'd mention you. 😊

This is a wonderful and unique idea to explore your creative potential.

You are right. Actually, I'm playing this game for the first time, so I'm not entirely sure how the story will end. I'll try to explore Arthur's character as deeply as possible, although I'm not an expert fiction writer, so you may notice some things that feel off in my writing. However, I'm trying my best, and if the game allows me to do things besides the main story missions (such as side missions or other adventures), I will explore them in my own unique way and try to create a story out of them here on Steemit.

Would you like to be a part of my small community, ارتقاء?

I have subscribed to your community. I will try to post here occasionally, but I cannot promise to do so regularly. However, if you allow me, I would like to publish some episodes of the series I have started here, as my plan is not to stick to just one community. I have already published five episodes in the WOX community. For the next five, I have chosen the Dream Steam community, and after that, I plan to publish the following five episodes in your community—provided I have your approval.

You could try narrating an episode from another character's perspective for a change. It would be interesting reading the conflicting angles of rivals about the same event.

There are no obligations when it comes to ارتقاء—Only genuine content from free-spirited Pakistani authors. Please do read the community's introductory post before sharing anything. Feel free to post this series there as well or any other creative writeup or opinion pieces.
