Your Mentality Defines Your Real Personality
One of the things that I have discovered in life is that someone's mentality is almost inseparable from their personality. Simply put; their mentality is like the foundation upon which their personality is built upon. Your mentality shapes your perception of reality, thereby influencing the actions that you take, which will ultimately determine the outcome and result of your life. I once heard a motivational speaker liken the mind to be a compass which guides and directs an individual through the challenges of life, or through opposition, or through their everyday lives. If you think you can do something, or think you cannot do it, you are still right, because your mind is what defines who you are.

You may not know it but the mind is a very powerful tool that can determine how you respond or react to the issues of life. Something may happen to two different people in the same way. One of them may think positively with growth-mindset and as such, they will see the challenge as opportunity to grow and also to learn new things. While the other person may see it negatively because of their negative mindset and it will affect them adversely. This is why I believe that it is not really what happens to an individual that makes the whole difference but their response to it. These responses stem from the mind. So if you must solve the issues of life, it must come from the mind first.
It is worthy to note that you are not defeated in the battles of life until you are defeated in the mind. You have not lost in life until you have lost in the mind. I once watched a boxing championship where one of the competitors was receiving some heavy punches and was even knocked down at some points. Everyone thought that he would give up because his face was already looking like mashed vegetables, but he persisted. He went round after round in that state. Luckily for him, out of nowhere, he was able to land a very devastating punch on his opponent which knocked him down and amazingly, it was also a knockout punch. That was how he won the competition against the odds. When he was interviewed later, he explained that he already won the match in his mind. Even when his body was almost giving up, his mind kept him going and he later won.
One of the things that you need to understand is that there is a relationship between self-belief and confidence. Meanwhile, it is your mentality that also determines your self-belief. If you have the mentality that you can get something done, then the confidence to do it will be manifested. But if you keep doubting yourself and your abilities, you may struggle to make any meaningful advancement. The people who make progress and succeed in life are the people who believe and have the mentality that they can achieve greatness, and this becomes manifested in their actions. Do not wait for external validation, as long as you will agree with your mind, you can create your own opportunity and take advantage of it.

You have to understand that believing in yourself or having a positive mentality does not mean being blinded to the reality on ground, rather it means focusing on your strengths to handle what comes to you. This does not also mean that you have absolute strength, but that you have room to grow and keep growing. When you believe in yourself, you will see yourself taking daring risks and doing the seemingly impossible. Why a lot of people do not make moves is because they do not believe that they can actually make the move or succeed at it. You will be surprised that when you take the step that you have been having reservations about, the kind of result you will see from it will amaze you.
In order to develop positive mentality and also to build confidence, there are things that you need to do: surround yourself with the people who will help you to maintain positivity, and who will inspire you towards greatness. Then embrace challenges with open mind, and with a mindset that sees opportunities in challenges. Also learn to set realistic and achievable goals, and make moves towards them. Finally, always be open to learn new things. As you learn new things, you will become more open-minded.
