Doing Nothing Costs More Than Failing

in WORLD OF XPILARyesterday

A lot of people sit and watch time move, yet they do not move. There are some people's dreams that have not been achieved, not because the dreams were not good, but because of inaction. It is weird to see people fear failure, yet they fail to understand that the bigger danger does not lie in failure but in inaction. You need to understand that even failure can teach lessons like building resilience, developing your mind, making you stronger, etc. But inaction only stagnates one and can lead to regrets in the long run. This is why you should not just sit and watch time move, you have to also make a move.

There is almost nothing that silently kills dreams and erodes potentials like being inactive when you should have taken an action. Trust me, it is even far better that you took the step and maybe failed at it than remaining docile and inactive. Making a choice of inaction is far more dangerous and carries bigger risks than failing, because it has robbed you of the opportunity to learn, grow, develop, and be strengthened.

It is worthy to note that failure does not mean the end of the road, neither does it mean that all hopes are lost. Rather it can even be a great teacher. Trust me, the person who tries and fails has gathered more experiences than someone who has not made a single attempt. See Thomas Edison is an example. He tried and failed repeatedly during the course of his scientific experiment towards his invention. In each of his failed attempts, he learnt something new which also guided him in his next attempt. He later confessed after he achieved his dream that all the while he did not succeed at it, he did not see them as failure but as learning processes. Which means that he actually learnt something even in failure, that he may not have learnt if he made the choice of inaction.

Failure can be a feedback to you of what needs to be done or what should not be done, how it should be done, the next step to take, what to improve on. But if you choose inaction, you will not even know what needs to be done, no lesson to be learnt, and you may not even know your capabilities. Inaction carries the dangers of regrets. When the time that you should have acted actually passes, all the opportunities that you missed and the risks that you did not take will come back to haunt you in form of regrets. Without taking the risk of the first step, you may never experience that breakthrough you are hoping for. It is true that you may not know the result of the action; because you may succeed or fail. But if you do not take it, then it is an outright failure.

One of the things you need to know about action is that every step you take, whether you succeed at it or you failed, will definitely teach you lessons. I once listened to one of the world greatest basketballers of all time; Michael Jordan's speech, he said that in the course of his career, he missed over 9000 shots on target, with over 300 lost games. But towards the end of the speech, he ended up with some motivational words that he had failed over and again, but it led to his success in life. If he had refused to take those shots because he was afraid of failure, he may not have become legendary in the game of basketball. This is because every failed shot will give him lessons to take a better shot next time, until he became a legend of the game.

Understand that failing actually means that you tried, while inaction means that you have not even started in the first place, which is actually more dangerous. If you fail at doing something, it is actually a plus, because it will teach you some very vital lessons that will help make the next attempt better. Always remember that trying and failing is not the real failure, but refusing to act or being inactive is the real failure.
