At the Top of Round Tower, Copenhagen, Denmark - Imprinted by LightCaptured
My idea of visiting the Round Tower in Copenhagen, Denmark, was to spend about a half, maybe one hour tops, enjoying the city views from birds point of view. That was because we had only one evening and a night in the capital of Denmark, as this was a "transit point" on our way to the small town of Tromsø in Northern Norway in order to chase the stunning Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis.
However, my idea failed. I spent much more time there, on top of the city with my eyes wide opened. Just to mention that it was not me only as I was there with my friends, also passionate about photography, travel and discovering the beauties of our world.
I am not going to spend your time with history and facts. There is plenty of interesting and detailed information on the wiki page of the tower here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rundetaarn
But as they say, until you see it you cannot properly dip into its magic! I assure you there are so many things about that tower that will amaze you on your first visit. For instance - inside it is a spiral ramp that was designed to bring noble people on top of the building with their vehicles so they don't have to walk. Also, the tower is "merged" with a church so on your way up you are given the opportunities to take a look inside the beautiful church through few interior doors and windows. Impressive stuff!
The best scenes become visible on top of the tower, of course. Now let me walk you through, visually :)
So as a photographer I would have only one thing to regret.
It is a historic building with limited access and opening times compatible with business hours. So, guess what - sunrises and sunsets, in order to be seen from up there, have to be properly planned ahead, depending on the season and the sunrise/sunset times. Also, better visit the official site of the Roundtower to check out those open hours. https://www.rundetaarn.dk/en/front-page/
Today, 10:00 - 18:00 for example...
Here is one view when climbing the spiral ramp up.
Another view, on top of the tower at the observation deck. There are few observation points. I didn't bother looking through them as one of my lenses provides enough "zoom" so I capture some details, hehe.
Moreover, you have to have coins to "activate" them. Another time, maybe.
I would say the best time of the day to visit the tower and take some impressive photos is the late afternoon and the evening. The sunset hours would be amazing too. There were a lot of clouds that afternoon but I was actually happy about that as the sky was unique, aiding my pictures in a perfect way. I created lots of silhouette photos that day.
The tower creates opportunities to witness 360 degree amazing views over the industrial and modern city:
The place and the environment have inspired me to create so many photos that day. Not only me, I am quite sure!
As you see, I was fascinated by people who were fascinated by the high-angle panoramas over the city...
