Walking in a field of flowers

I love drawing all sorts of things as some of you here already know and have seen…and it’s always abstract in some way, but if I’m honest, nature and flowers have always stolen my heart. There’s something incredibly calming and therapeutically satisfying about getting lost in all the tiny “petal” details… one flower at a time. I’ve caught myself completely forgetting the concept of time while drawing dozens of little daisies, just floating in it. No pressure, no real destination, just pen to “digital paper” and the quiet of it all.

Lately, I’ve definitely been leaning more into florals. Some of the pieces I’ve done are based on actual flowers... But there was this one piece I kept imagining that felt a bit different. I wanted to draw something that had a focal point, something that felt more like a scene than a pattern.

I’d seen this picture on Pinterest ages ago. It was a girl walking in a field of flowers… but the field of flowers was her dress. The image stuck with me - like a little idea waiting to be remembered again. I obviously didn’t want to copy it directly, but I liked the concept. The idea of blending into nature so completely, becoming a part of it, that felt really special to me.

So I drew her.

It started simply. I wasn’t trying to force it or overthink it. I just wanted to see where it would go. And honestly, I loved working on it. Every time I added a new flower, I felt a little more connected to what I was making. It turned into this beautiful merging of figure and flora and I just let the piece lead me rather than the other way around. In fact the only “real” thing I gave thought with intent to during the whole process was probably the decision to change her arms from up to down lol.

It is always really special creating something just because it feels right. No reason, no performance. Just moments in time between you and the page… and I think maybe that’s the part that stays with me the most, not just the final artwork, but the experience of the actual compilation. The presence. The reminder that we don’t always have to be doing things that make sense to other people. Sometimes, we’re just meant to follow our own thread… even if it leads us into a field full of imaginary flowers - who would not love that anyway, lol.
