The Early Bird Bakes the Bread
Last nights beautiful and rather moody sunset
Last night whilst already sitting without power due to some kind of fault at one of the power stations nearby we got notice that there was a scheduled power outage planned for today as well. YAY! Not. Jude had soccer yesterday, which always means a late “evening things” start for me because we only get home close to 5pm but nonetheless I had decided to make three sourdough loaves for the locals and as they had already confirmed… the obligation was there.
When we got home, I got the dough going - not something I can start and then leave half way through unfortunately… otherwise I would. And thank goodness I got us something for dinner which I could cook on the gas! Anyhoo, I got on with things and then this notice of the planned outage came through. Apparently to start at 6am.
Needless to say, I was not entirely amped because taking into account the heating up of the oven as well as the time it would take to bake the breads, I was looking at having to be up at 4am. This was not really an issue as I do often find myself lying in bed wide awake at that hour, lol… but lying awake in bed and being up and about are two entirely different things!
Anyway, as it happened, I actually woke up at 3am for “whatever reason” - I actually cannot recall and I picked up my phone, as one does. Saw a message from my son, sent to me after I had gone to sleep obviously… telling me that there was an issue with the inverter and he didnt want to reboot it because he didn’t want to wake me up with all the lights and appliances etc. switching on. So, I got up to deal with that - got it sorted out and then figured, well.. I may as well just get on with things.
Not exactly my usual morning routine, lol - but I got the bread baking, got a load of laundry done too, unpacked the dishwasher, packed away all the clothes already on the clothes horse, cleaned the scullery and also tended to some online laptop work - and when it was all said and done… three delicious looking loaves of sourdough ready to rock and roll for my customers!
The fruits of my 3am labour session.
I won’t lie, I am feeling a little knackered now… as I did not get any chance to take a breather today either, because I had another three loaves to prep dough for as well as dealing with packing of orders etc. for delivery to the courier tomorrow… so on and so forth… you know how it goes. No doubt I will sleep well tonight, haha!
Nah - I know I will sleep precisely the same… and lie wide eyed at 4am again, haha! But, if I am honest, I actually quite enjoyed being up at that hour and getting stuff done. I really felt like the day had so much many more hours for me to get to things - well, I guess that is because it did! It felt good. Productive. Perhaps I will do it again tomorrow… mmm probably not, lol! Oh... and at the end of it all... the planned power outage never happened, hahahahaha!!!!! SO not funny! lol.
❤❤❤
Until next time...

I'm familiar with that. Sometimes I wake up at 3 a.m., do a bunch of things, and go to bed closer to midnight. It can be a very long day. But now I mostly wake up at 5 a.m.
By the way, the bread looks very appetizing.
