Pine roots
Another explanation for my words that I always say about the place's interest is the Yaikovo neighborhood in Veliky Ustyug. Here, pine trees grow on the steep bank of the Sukhona River and expose their roots.
When I was a child, Krasavino had its hills, trails, century-old fir trees, and height differences...and Ustyug with pine trees, steep banks, powerful rivers, and ancient architecture.
I don't envy those and I understand those who grew up in similar places and moved to slightly more boring places where there is no such variety of interesting things.
There are many things in the Vologda region. I won't even list them. Probably, there are only no kilometer-high mountains, like in the Urals.
Vologda region is almost Karelia! There are no fewer lakes here, there are many different rivers, the architecture is the same, even the rocks of the Permian period are unique, which you will not find even in Siberia.
I will say more: every region has its own landscape and natural features that are worth admiring.
But if you take the Vologda region and the individual Velikoustyugsky district, where I was born and lived for many years, then there is a concentration of everything.
After concentration, it's hard to assess and wonder about places where it's all scattered or in mini-versions.
I'm trying to make you understand why in the previous many and many subsequent posts I will often talk about the boredom of a place or about its interest. It's not just me.
I once admired the photographic postcards of Lake Baikal, where pine trees stand on steep cliffs with beautiful views. This, by the way, partly contributed to my development as a photographer.
So that's it....almost Lake Baikal, only the other shore is visible. We have waterfalls, and the ice floes are no worse after the ice break. And if you take Lake Onega or Kubenskoe, you can't even see the shores there.
This is not a praise for the Vologda region, although it is, of course, good.
It all comes down to one thing: I grew up surrounded by the concentration and diversity of nature and landscape, so if I say in some post that this place is boring, then there really is nothing interesting about it.
