Some People Just Aren't Happy... UNLESS They Are Complaining About Something!

in WORLD OF XPILAR4 years ago

The title of this post might sound a little contradictory, but it seems like a sad fact of life.

Mrs. Denmarkguy was sharing some ideas after a client session she'd had and it sounded like this person she was counseling basically is making it "her life's work" to complain about everything.

And when there wasn't something handy to complain about, she'd actively seek out something to be unhappy with.

Why do people do this? It is a familiar pattern to me, but it still escapes me why anyone can be bothered to spend all their time on on eternally long "fault finding" journey.

I say the pattern is familiar, because my own stepfather was rather like that.

When he played golf, it was always too windy, the greens were too fast, or too slow, people were playing too slowly, it was too warm, it was too cold, or something.

Movies were too long, too short, too loud, too slow moving, or something.

Dinner was served too early, too late, it was too hot, too spicy, too bland, too much, not enough, too much sauce, not enough sauce, or something.

On the few occasions where I found the nerve to actually call him on it, he'd always say something along the lines of "A man my age has the RIGHT to get what he demands!"

Problem, of course, was that he never actually got what he demanded...

Growing up with my stepfather was a good lesson for me... about not complaining too much about everything... because people around you soon enough grow frustrated and really don't want anything to do with you.

Is it perfectionism? Or could it be unrealistic expectations? Or is it something completely different? To be honest, I don't know... it's one of those human characteristics I've never fully understood.

Thanks for reading, and have a great week ahead!
