Memories of Rainy Days in Summer
It has been raining for a couple of days, and the weather forecasters claim that it will keep raining until Wednesday.
It's a bit much for this time of the year, even here in the Pacific Northwest!
Not that I really mind the rain, it's what keeps things so green, in this part of the world.
On the other hand, this is gardening season around here... and I am starting to worry that seeds are going to rot in the ground, and the little new plantings are going to "drown" from excess of water.
I have always made a point of only buying seeds that come from distributors who are based in this part of the world, where they know what our weather can be like... and how difficult it can be, to grow a successful garden.
The poor tomato plants must be very sad, though...
This is what we're hoping for... but probably not until September!
The weather here is not unlike my native Denmark, and I remember many rainy days in summer.
Unlike many of my friends, I was not really bothered by the rain during the summer holidays, most of which I would spend at my auntie's house in the country.
Perhaps what made those rainy days bearable was the fact that I was out of school, and that my Auntie had no shortage of things in the house to keep me entertained.
Of course, I was a very self-contained kid, and I'd be perfectly content sitting in the Great Room with the fireplace going, while doing jigsaw puzzles.

Of course — at least in me teenage years — I was expected to "earn my keep" by helping out in the yard and around the property. Which I gladly did... it was a life so different from what I was used to, living at home with my parents.
It always amused me, though, to listen to the adults talking about the rainy weather. And they would joke with each other that "Summer fell on a Tuesday, last year!" and such things. I used to think it was rather sill how much adults put their attention into talking about the weather... and here I am, all these years later, talking about the weather!
In all seriousness, though, I do hope we don't get torrential rains that wash away all the topsoil that was carefully put in place for this year's plantings.
Perhaps I look back on those early days of my life with such fondness because it was also a time when I was free of the weight of responsibilities of adult life. There was more of a sense of hope in my world back then, than there is today...
Not going to dwell on it too much, though...
Thanks for stopping by, and have a great weekend — rainy or otherwise!
How about you? Are you bothered by the rain, or do you take it in stride? Do you live somewhere with a distinct "rainy season?" How does that affect daily life? Did rainy weather frustrate you, when you were a kid? Would a person be delusional to look for it, and accept nothing less? I love your Auntie's house. That is a really unique look. I am a big fan of rain as long as I have enough food in the fridge and I don't have to go anywhere. It's actually some of my favorite days because here in Vietnam a lot of our noise pollution comes from construction and motorbike horns... both of these things stop when it rains really hard so it is actually a really fantastic time of day when it happens.
