Feliz Domingo de Resurrección. Nuevamente, nos damos cita con el arte y la escritura. Para esta edición 141, les traigo como invitado al pintor español Leonardo Alenza y Nieto:

Este distinguido artista plástico nació el 6 de noviembre de 1807 en Madrid (España). Era hijo de Valentín Alenza, un empleado público adscrito a la Secretaría de Farmacia y aficionado a la escritura poética; y de María Nieto Sánchez.

Quedó huérfano de madre cuando aún era un niño. Desde muy joven tuvo inclinación hacia la pintura. En el año 1819 ingresó a la Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando. Perteneció al movimiento conocido como Romanticismo. Fue muy influenciado por Goya. Sus obras eran trabajadas en formatos pequeños, pero sin descuidar la expresividad de los rostros de los personajes dibujados ni los detalles de los contextos en los que estos estaban ubicados.

Fue ilustrador de la novela picaresca Gil Blas y de las obras completas de Quevedo.

En el año 1842 solicitó el título Académico de Mérito en la Academia de San Fernando. Pero ya para ese momento su salud estaba aquejada por una fuerte tuberculosis, que acabó prematuramente con su vida el 30 de junio de 1845, cuando apenas tenía 37 años.

This distinguished plastic artist was born on November 6, 1807 in Madrid (Spain). He was the son of Valentín Alenza, a public employee assigned to the Department of Pharmacy and a lover of poetry; and María Nieto Sánchez.

He was orphaned by his mother when he was still a child. From a very young age, he was drawn to painting. In 1819, he entered the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando. He belonged to the movement known as Romanticism. He was greatly influenced by Goya. His works were rendered in small formats, but without neglecting the expressiveness of the faces of the drawn characters or the details of the contexts in which they were situated.

He was an illustrator of the picaresque novel Gil Blas and of the complete works of Quevedo.

In 1842, he applied for the title of Academician of Merit at the Academy of San Fernando. But by then, his health was already suffering from severe tuberculosis, which ended his life prematurely on June 30, 1845, when he was just 37 years old.
