Hoy llegamos a la edición 140 de "Arte y Escritura", y para esta el invitado es Jhon Maler Collier:

This distinguished artist was born on January 27, 1850, in London (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland).

He studied art in Munich and Heidelberg, also at the Slade School with Poynter and in Paris with Laurens.

He was influenced by the masters Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema and Sir John Everett Miles, who were associated with the Pre-Raphaelite movement, of which Collier was a member.

Collier married Marian Huxley in 1879, daughter of the prominent biologist, philosopher, and defender of Darwin's theory of evolution. This young woman, who also devoted herself to painting, died at the age of 27, after giving birth to their only daughter.

Later, the painter fell in love with his deceased wife's younger sister, Ethel Huxley, but since marriages between brothers-in-law were prohibited in England, the couple married in Norway. Two children were born from this union, a girl and a boy.

Collier's works cover a variety of themes, including portraiture, dramatic subjects, landscapes, and mythological themes.

John Collier died on April 11, 1934, at the age of 84, in London (United Kingdom).
