The silent farewell

Selected image of the contest

Premila and Mohan were best friends from their childhood. Later, without knowing them, they become lovers. They have spent many days near the sea on the same bench discussing their dreams. This stone bench is evidence that they hugged, kissed, and loved each other. But today is different. Monika has to leave.
Mohan sat on the stone bench in a dark dress, looking at Premila, who was lying beside him. Their hearts were full of heavy. Monika was resting her head on the bench. She forgot to wrap the white cloth around her body. Her bare body was pale against the cold stone. She never thought the final kiss would hurt her in such a way. She didn't want to glance at Mohan because she was afraid her mind might be changed. She was in two worlds: go or stay. The last kiss shook her heart. She wanted to cuddle in his lap more and more. But can she do so?
She can't change her final decision. She decided not to give a chance to the heart. But how can she raise her head and glance at Mohan? She was afraid to do so. She felt that she was trapped in the place, so she wanted to leave for freedom. Mohan never wants to leave his family or his home, but her patience has no limit now. That's why she got a firm decision.
"Then you are leaving." Mohan broke the silence with his sad voice.
Premila remained silent but, with a deep sigh, stayed in the same posture.
"Don't go, Premila; I can't bear this." Again, Mohan whispered.
"I have to leave this location now. I felt that I was trapped in this place. I'd like to visit a new place where I can be free."
Mohan caught her hand and leaned to Premila as if to kiss her again and said, "But I need you here; let's stay together every time."
Premila raised her head and glanced at Mohan with a weak smile. "You will always have my memories. But my heart is calling me from a distance."
Mohan noticed a small boat waiting on the water in the distance. His heart felt a great heave that he couldn't raise.
Mohan squeezed the hand of Premila and asked, "Will I ever see you again?
Instead of replying, Premila stood up and wrapped the white cloth around her body.
"Maybe one day," she responded without looking at Mohan.
Then she, without looking back, walked towards the shore.
Mohan was looking at Premila's leaving. He wanted to run behind and stop her, but he knew he couldn't stop her.
Premila was taken away by the boat. Mohan sensed that the bench next to him was empty. His heart is silent even though the wind is blowing, the leaves are falling, and the shore is whispering. He felt as if he had lost everything. His eyes welled with tears.
