Today I will discuss with you about a palace in Puthia Upazila of Rajshahi Division. There is a palace there and a museum inside which has some old architecture. This is a type of palace where the kings of ancient times lived and a museum has been created about their lifestyle. Here, various wall architectures along with the things they used are mentioned. At the beginning, you will see a huge palace complex at the entrance.

The Puthia Rajbari complex was built by various kings and landlords. The main Rajbari is a huge palace with a wide field in front, a pond behind and various structures around it. The most important feature of this Rajbari is the unique temples located next to it. We will discuss the minister later, but first let's know about the main complex. The architecture of the Rajbari shows a mixture of Mughal, European and local styles. Especially the huge gate, beautiful domes and terracotta work make the place incomparable.

The structure of this palace building, on the one hand, expresses royalty and on the other hand, it bears the skillful impression of the architectural techniques of old Bengal. Just by looking at the entire palace complex, one can understand what deep thought and technical skill it was built with. The main structure of this palace is formed following a rectangular plan. Surrounded by walls and a huge courtyard in the middle.

If you look at both sides of this building, in front and behind, you will feel a royal atmosphere. There are two huge maps in front of the building, by looking at the map, you can explore all parts of this palace building. The map that has been drawn on a paper here is completely modern style and all the details have been added so that all tourists can understand. There is a beautiful architecture behind the entire palace complex and museum, all the history is mentioned here.

Upon entering the palace, you will see multiple rooms, inner halls, guest rooms, council chambers, and storerooms. The ceilings of each room are relatively high so that it remains cool in the summer. The rooms have wide windows that allow natural light and air to enter. As you enter, you will see an ancient-style staircase. Iron grills, wooden doors, mahogany and shala wood arches have been used in the architecture. The doors are carved and cool tiles are installed in many places.

An important part of the complex is the “Puthia Rajbari Museum”. It is currently being run under the supervision of the Department of Archaeology. The museum has been renovated and built in a part of the palace. The museum preserves the furniture, clothing, ornaments, weapons, pictures and documents used by the Puthia royal family. These objects are living witnesses of history and tradition. There are several galleries inside, of which we entered gallery number three. Inside there are various important furniture including huge chests.

Apart from this, the museum also houses some important artifacts from the British era. Such as guns, swords, royal family certificates and personal belongings from the British era. The museum highlights the cultural history of not only the royal family but also the entire region. The museum section has some rare ancient artifacts that date back to the 17th-18th centuries. Such as ancient terracotta, gold jewelry used by the royal family and paintings. The environment of this museum is very quiet, orderly and clean.

The Bangladesh government has taken various initiatives to preserve the Puthia Rajbari Complex and Museum. It is now an archaeological site listed by the Department of Archaeology. Numerous tourists flock to this historical site every day. The view from the front of the building is beautiful. Also, there is a strong breeze where there is a balcony. Inside, there is a fan above each room.

The Andar Mahal is particularly notable. It was an area reserved for female members. It also had a separate veranda, small courtyard and staircase. There were some more rooms in the north-west corner of the building, which was a restricted area. The palace was surrounded by wide verandas and peaceful gardens with a small pond and fountain at its center. Terracotta decorations were used in many places in the palace. Stairs were built to reach the roof of the multi-storey building, with wide and grooved steps. Inside the building was a large hall where the royal court would sit.

If you walk from there towards the east, you can see several structures there too. These are all historical structures. They have been built for the cultures that people have believed in since ancient times. Apart from Muslims, there are some rules and regulations by the Hindu Welfare and Reforms Committee. There is a vehicle for some Hindu festival which is displayed in front. Apart from that, there is another big entrance in front where there is a notice board called Bara Govinda Mandir. You will see a dustbin there every now and then that says Use me.

Let us now show you a surprising place. Since there was a king in ancient times, only he ruled with competition. There was a security road or secret door to protect himself from those who attacked from neighboring kingdoms. When the king was injured in the war, he would go out through this door and take shelter in a safe place. This door was known only to the people of this building. It has been named as the secret door. A signboard of the entire palace has been placed outside so that no one can enter without permission.
