I can’t Believe America Lost This Title To China
China has finally done it.
They built a homegrown super computer using all Chinese made parts which are exceedingly faster than last year’s super computer champion.
After the US government banned the sale of Intel’s fastest computer chips to China a little more than a year ago in a failed effort to thwart Chinese development.
China’s resilience in the face of international competition has only forced it to work harder and faster. Merely half a century ago China was in a similar position with Russia over submarine technology. Chairman Mao told his nation after the Russians swore to never share the secrets that China would build its own submarine even if it took forever. Not long later they have a fleet of world class subs.
Let’s look at how much faster this computer is. China’s TaihuLight as they named it was built by Jiangnan Computing Research Lab in Wuxi using their latest supercomputing ShenWei CPUs controlled using a Linux OS called Sunway Raise.
Reported By Jeffrey Lin and P.W. Singer Posted June 24, 2016 reported on http://www.popsci.com/there-is-new-worlds-fastest-supercomputerand-it-is-all-chinese
It “has 10,649,600 central processing units (CPU), to achieve a processing speed of 93 petaflops; that's 93 quadrillion calculations a second, or 2 million laptop computers.”
And explained further by by Patrick Thibodeau http://www.computerworld.com/article/3085483/high-performance-computing/china-builds-world-s-fastest-supercomputer-without-u-s-chips.html
This computer was not just built for show “The TaihuLight is "very impressive," said Jack Dongarra, a professor of computer science at the University of Tennessee and one of the academic leaders of the Top500 supercomputing list, in a report about the new system.
TaihuLight is running "sizable applications," which include advanced manufacturing, earth systems modeling, life science and big data applications, said Dongarra. This "shows that the system is capable of running real applications and [is] not just a stunt machine," Dongarra said.
China has many computers on the top 500 list but they are all mostly using American made supercomputer Intel chips. They have more than America actually.
Also note that this is only computers known to the public and science communities. There isn’t any information on what intelligent agencies supercomputer capabilities are.
America’s fastest Supercomputer is 3rd on the list internationally. Is rightly named the Titan at the U.S. Dept. of Energy’s Oak Ridge Laboratory which can peak at 27 petaflops.
Whereas the TaihuLight in China can peak at 125.4 petaflops the first computer in the world to break 100 petaflops. Also using less power. It would be capable of being the computer from the Person Of interest should the software be obtainable.
Unit Equivalent
1 kilobyte (KB) 1,024 bytes
1 megabyte (MB) 1,048,576 bytes
1 gigabyte (GB) 1,073,741,824 bytes
1 terabyte (TB) 1,099,511,627,776 bytes
1 petabyte (PB) 1,125,899,906,842,624 bytes
So it’s quite clear China has created its own technology that surpasses that of what is currently available in America and thus the world. Don’t rule out Japan and Germany they are also gunning for first.
And so the race continues.

Hi! This post has a Flesch-Kincaid grade level of 10.5 and reading ease of 55%. This puts the writing level on par with Michael Crichton and Mitt Romney.
