Hello my wonderful steemit friends and fellow steemians, including all the newbies, it 8s my pleasure to make this post that helps us understand what steemit communities are. Most newbies have been asking questions about communities and how to post in them, where to locate communities and how to subscribe to them. Hence this post. Answering them individually may not reach the large audience though I have done that to most of them that come to my private mail in whatsapp. So today, @steemalive community, in fulfilling it's obligation of 3Rs ,which is Recruitment, Retention and Reward, asked me to handle it in our general whatsapp group page which I did by 9pm local Nigeria time. I have done that and at the end @focusnow made his contributions to argument what I have said and for this I am grateful. Below are the topic, subtopics and the lessons proper.

The main topic was:

Communities on Steemit - what are they?

Subtopics were

  1. What are communties
  2. Where can I see all the communities
  3. How to subscribe to a community
  4. How to post in a Community.
  5. How to sort posts in a community

what are communities?

First a community is a group of people who share something in common. You can define a community by the shared attributes of the people in it and/or by the strength of the connections among them.

Steem is a community focused.
Steemit as a social media platform that is divided into communities and these communities are created for different purposes. For instance, @steemalive is created for the purpose of onboarding new members, @steemitfoods community for foods, @steemwomenclub for women and so on and fort.

Most of us must have known about all these communities but for the purpose of our newest newbies it is very timely

There are a lot of communities in steemit, it depends on which one you want according to your interest.

where can l see all the communities?

That is an important question

https://steemit.com/communities

You can click the above to locate all the communities in steemit

Or better still, go to your steemit page, and click on that green steemit above you profile. Follow the screenshots below.

Once you click on explore communities, you will see them

How can i subscribe to communities

Having gotten to where you have the list of communities, beside each of them you will see a box with subscribe, it means that to subscribe, you need to click that box

Screenshot_2021-02-17-21-19-28.jpg

First go to your page, click on that green steemit on your page close to the address bar, click on the box that is written all posts

The drop down box will show the list of the communities that you have joined or subscribed to

Locate the one you want, like the newcomers community on the screen shot above

Click on it, it will take you to the page of that community, There you will see post, in a box, Tap it, then it will open the writting page for you

Next is how to sort posts in a community

Posts are sorted by trending, New, payouts and muted.

Trending to the best of my knowledge has to do with most recent post that is up voted with high value

New has to do with the latest post by time

You know that after 7 days, the money drops into your wallet. So when you select payouts, you are able to see posts that would soon pay into your wallet

Muted posts are a function of the community admin. Only the admin can mute a post or comment. When this is done, the post is hidden. A post is usually muted when it is not welcome in the community, or it broke Community rules, so the admin can mute the post. It will remain hidden and you have to click a reveal button before you can see a muted post or comment.

Alright, to go to these sorts, follow the screenshots below

Screenshot_2021-02-17-21-32-22.jpg

Once you go into a community, you will first see trending at the right hand side below your profile image as in the screenshot above marked red

Click the drop down on it

Screenshot_2021-02-17-21-34-05.jpg

Then you will see the list displayed, Click on the one you are looking for and it will bring out the posts under that category.

Good to read your comment ma'am, I am happy that you found this post helpful. I understand why you couldn't attend the class. Hope everyone is doing great? @sarahraudhah

Things are great at home especially now that the gov has lifted some restrictions. We can finally go out and dine outside. Not that we really want to eat outside but knowing that we can, feels like a huge burden is lifted.

They also remove most of the roadblocks which make me feel less stress going out. I'm not good with roads so when they block it, I have problem going to the place I want. And the fine of MYR1000 (US$247) cause we got to the wrong place or go over 10km was scary too.

Thanks for asking. Hope your family doing great too.

This is good news. That means that covid 19 is almost off the country. Amazing. It is really a huge relief.
Everyone is doing great, we are grateful to Jehovah.

Well, the cases is strong as ever but they finally going to give out the vaccines, so I guess things are less scary now.
