Dreaming of Doors

Here's another lucid dream that was in my opinion the first one of its kind for me....I almost died as it ended:

{My brother: Matthew} & {some friends: Marilyn, Andrew, Jill, Brittany, and Whitney}.

We all start out on our journey heading to a luxurious summer resort, where we could do about anything we wanted. One morning we're all are just hanging out in the breakfast nook when the phone rang.

I picked it up and the caller said, "Hello, I am a killer. I am inviting you and your friends to come play a dangerous game at my house."

I said, "Fair Enough". He then relayed the directions and hung up.

I talked to everyone about it and Andrew says, "Yeah, we should absolutely do this."

I said, "Why not there's 7 of us."

I can see Matthew and Andrew are into this mysterious venture. The girls also seem willing except for Jill. Jill realizes she's the only one not feeling it so she concedes. We proceed toward the destination and as we get closer I feel that the girls are getting pretty timid. We're all packed into a blue rusted Ford pick-up truck and I'm taking notes on every turn I'm making.

By the time we arrive it is just starting to get dark. All of the street lights in the neighborhood are out…most likely the killer has strategically cut them off. We pull into a black gravel driveway, and we all quickly jump out of the truck and I can see the excitement bursting from Matthew.

We immediately converse and decide we are definitely going to stick together. We walk up to the front door and of course it is unlocked. We all pack into this small foyer room where we barely fit. Looking around at every corner and checking every door which seems to be 10 different doors in total. I randomly open one and look in but it is dark. I hear no movement so I step in. We find out it is only big enough for 3 of us, so we figure that we'll now have to split up which is not fitting into our original plan. Marilyn, Brittany, and I head into the one room that I opened. Matthew says that each group should have at least one guy in it…so Matthew goes with Jill while Andrew pairs up with Whitney. We all leave the doors we went through open so that we can stay together and communicate as long as possible.

I'm searching around our room and find a smaller than normal light switch on the ground that I flick on. A light comes on, but I quickly turn it off. Everyone starts whispering for me to turn that light back on, but I explain that the killer will know where we are in the house and that we should try to surprise the killer. After my discovery everyone starts to search each room more thoroughly. In our room Brittany finds an ottoman, so she moves it and a wall slides open. At this point we said our goodbyes to the rest of the group and started through the house.

With this wall open we see the layout of an enfilade where there is a small hallway with a lot of doors. I start to notice that some of the doors are locked while the open rooms have windows that seem to lead into other parts of the house. Still there are rooms that are pitch black and yet one room that has a winding staircase. We start to find that some of the spaces have similar items like the switch and the ottoman. I see a string hanging from the ceiling and we realize there are so many options to try out. We’re quickly learning all the tricks and finding keys. We continue to wander the house carefully splitting the keys up between us so that we can keep track of all the different ones. We find ourselves sometimes having to turn back after finding locked doors without a working key. After being in the house for about an hour we hear someone walking up stairs. We eagerly listen for where a set of stairs could be. After looking for about half a minute we find an old laundry shoot that has a staircase inside. I look up and down the staircase without seeing anyone.

I say, "Lets go up the staircase since we're still on ground level."

At the top of the staircase there is a very narrow textured door that is locked. Marilyn has one key we haven’t used and I ask for it....hoping this will work. I turn the key and the door opens but I’m feeling a bit of resistance so I push harder and look in. This is the largest room yet, and it is lit up slightly more than the rest of the house.

We walk around in this exciting new room and see some creepy paintings, a fireplace, and a full rusted knight’s amor. I whisper to Marilyn and Brittany that there should be a trick involving the fireplace. We look around and feel up the chimney but nothing is to be felt there. The girls each trying to find the trick, but then I thought maybe the killer has done this on purpose…knowing that we'd think their was a trick at the fireplace. So, we turn to all the paintings and start moving them. I find behind one painting a key stuck in behind the frame. I take it even though it looks different from the others as this one looks to belong to a vehicle. Another painting opens revealing a window and we see the outside of the house. It looks to be maybe the back of the house and at this point we are getting pretty tired of being in the house. It doesn’t look too too far up from the ground so I tell the girls that I'm going to break the glass and help them jump out. Before I break the glass I explain that we need to make this quick as the glass will definitely be heard. I break the glass with the new found key and kick out the sharp pieces. I help the girls by hanging out of the window and dropping them down safely. I then jump out but end up spraining my ankle and I feel it instantly tighten up. We’re finally outside but I have no clue where the other groups are located. So we start walking outside around the house looking for any other windows or doors. I notice around the side of the house a brand new red Dodge Ram truck. I hobble over to it and look in, and I see a screw driver and ski mask in the passenger seat.

I said, "I bet this is the killer's truck." I try to open the door but it is locked. I try the key I found in the room we jumped from and become extremely relieved when it turns and I hear the lock release. I open the door and fire up the engine with the same key. Marilyn and Brittany hop in so I can ride around the house to see if we see anything. Before we find anyone we locate a tall but slim crack in a wall of the gloomy condemned mansion. We go up to it and I try to fit but my chest is just too big. Marilyn figures she’ll try and she gets through with a bit of a struggle.

She tells us about how dark the room is just as a light shines out the crack. Brittany and I hear Marilyn scream so I frantically try to get through the crack for a second time. I just can’t get in so I look all over the truck and underneath the driver seat I find an axe. I swing wildly and viciously at the crack and as I’m tearing it open I see someone with a ski mask holding Marilyn. I notice he’s all decked out with a black sweater, black jeans, black gloves, and black shoes. I throw the axe toward the both of them but purposefully throw a bit high so as to create a distraction. Sure enough, Marilyn is on the same page and slips from the killer’s grasp. I run full on at this guy like a linebacker going after a quarterback. I hit him right above the waist and I hear him lose his breath. I get up and instantly run over to a door the girls are trying to get open. Just as I’m about to try and bust the door open…Marilyn gets it. I turn around to hold the door handle so the killer can’t get in. After about what felt like 3 minutes he finally stops trying to get in. I turn to the girls and give them a puzzled look. We hear him going through different doors in the house going more towards the interior……so we jet it back through the crack in the wall to the truck.

After getting into the truck and locking the doors we see Matthew and Jill run from around one of the corners of the house. They look at us for like 5 seconds and then realize it is us yelling for them. They get over to us and we start wondering how to go about finding Andrew and Whitney. I drive around the side of the house we hadn’t gone to and around that corner we see this whole side of the house has a huge wall of glass. We can see into the house and all the compartments of rooms, hallways, and stairs. We sit and wait on this side for a while until we see two bodies running through a hall that looked to be about three rooms away from the glass. Another door opens and we see the killer running after them. They run into a room and lock the door behind them. It seems they are lucky because the killer didn't have the key. At this point we run over to them as there is just one thick piece of glass between us. I get out the axe and hit it about 20 times but does nothing. Whitney looks like she’s about to sit down and cry but something happens as she haphazardly grabs onto a pole in the room. A door that looked invisible just seconds ago opens from the room they are in. We all hug and agree to instantly get the hell out of there. Everyone piles into the truck randomly. I’m running for the driver seat just as I slip in some mud. I look back for precaution and I see the killer on my ass with a knife to my throat. He tells the others to stay put. At this point I’m so close to the truck that I want to make a move so I’m running through any option that I can act on. Before I can think of something, Andrew stands up from the back of the pick-up with the axe and cracks it right into the killer's shoulder. He releases the knife and I scramble from my sprained ankle and get into the driver seat.

I start the truck and reverse out. I look over and the killer has taken off his mask…I give a double take as I realize the killer is Anthony Hopkins. As I’m driving back I ask Andrew how he pulled off that heroic save.

Andrew says he was laying down in the back of the pick-up bed so that Anthony had no idea he was there.

I wonder what would have occurred if Anthony Hopkins had killed me in that dream?
