The daily Quail Egg Bounty increases.

in #homesteading7 years ago (edited)

My continuing love for my Coturnix quail seems to have no bounds. Just when I think, "Wow, these guys are so amazing because ____". Today, it is the increase in egg production. This is just this mornings production.

That is 14 eggs! I only have 17 quail and some of those are Roos. Therefore, some have to be laying more than once a day! What?!

Now add to that the additional eggs I will see tonight when I tuck them up to bed, I usually get a few more then. And so far only one quail (or only one egg a day) lays in the run on the ground. The rest truly lay in a cluster in the nest box, which I was told quail would not do. In fariness, though, their nest box is level with the rest of thier indoor pen where their food and water is, so that probably helps, but they do seem to have chosen a corner.

They also say Quail will not go broody, so since mine seem to be breaking some rules, I want to see one go Broody!

Currently I still have about 40 of their eggs in the bater IN my bathroom to make sure we don't have another incubator mishap

We eat quail eggs every day with our Chicken's eggs. I am thinking I shall boil up a batch today. I have been saving the brine from my store bought pickled cukes and will simply fill a jar and plop in a batch of freshly peeled boiled eggs and they'll keep nicely and go great on salads or with a good beer.

I had meant to do a cute quail drawing for this post, but I'll just share this one I did before again:

I also had intentions to make an animated drawn gif for my chicken/quail posts, but have two other contest/art life paintings in the works already, so I have to stay focused.

Here, in lieu of that, is an artsy photo of this mornings quail egg haul with appropriate background. OOh, look at that stark contrast and how the sublte hint of unborn life is represented by the eggs only to be contrasted with the mightyness and eternal struggle of the sea.

I might be suffering from too much quail egg egg-citement (ah ah?) Okay, I'll stop...

I hope your day is filled with expectations exceeded and for heavens sakes, go to a healthfood store and try a quail egg already!

"Too much egg-citement." Gave me a good chortle. You do have some of the most prolific Quail around, that's for sure. At least in my world of bird and chicken understanding, which is not really that big. But I'm still impressed to no end. They're really shooting them out in birdie droves, aren't they. Amazing.

Aww I love the quail drawing! I'm just waiting for your dog to have another quail buddy, I don't think I'll be able to rest until then.

You and me both, on Monday I turn the 'turner' off and then in 3 days it might be baby quail! Fingers crossed! (and paws crossed for Monty)

Wow that is a lot! From what I hear, the quail moms and dads of steemit are always finding creative ways to put those eggs to good use- I vote for a steemit powered collab quail-egg cookbook @lifemovedbysteem comes to mind for sure-- thoughts?

;)

YES, that'd be amazing. I love these little eggs. And now we have special sciccors to aid in eating them! Well, getting them out of the shell.

Woa, I think we all need a quail-egg-scissor post

Great minds think a like. I did one this morning and I am just seeing this post now!

NO way! Gotta check that out lol.

Wait a second, are you going to eat 14 eggs? I could eat 14 eggs in 1 months maybe.
Let them grow, let them live! For a planet full of cuddly quails!

I just realized you think I am going to eat all these eggs I posted in one go? No silly billy. I will eventually eat them all, but not in one day. I will eat about six in one day, though, cooked with cheese and put upon my salad, so good.

OH, I have 40 in an incubator right now growing. We can't hatch all the eggs and not eat any. Also eggs are SO YUMMY! and I know what my quail eat so I know it is good non GMO food. MMMMM

AHAHAHAHAH! Well, on a unrelated note, after tomorrow I will go back to oil painting classes, don't expect much, as all I have done with my hands lately has been just balloon shaped animals.

Good luck and what fun. I love oils. You'll have a blast and I don't know how to make balloon animals so you are one up on me, well probably more than one up one. Can't wait to see your first oils!
